I am desperate to start doing these. Find a bunch of Non Trek fans and just give them the most off the wall, insane, ridiculous no context screenshot and have them try to explain.

If they want to find someone who hasn’t watched Trek, just get the director of Nemesis.

I mean, you could make a big list of people who work/worked on ST that never watched it.

…of course then we get a guy that says he never liked it to reboot the movies… fml

Better than what Marvel fans got.

“What do you mean you made Doctor Strange 2 without watching WandaVision!? It was supposed to be a direct sequel!”

Reminds me of the Halo tv series:

“We didn’t play the games or read the novels, but its gonna be good!”

            (It was not good)

My God, the Halo series was so bad. So many ways they could’ve made a Halo Universe show that even casuals could watch, but nope, we gotta purposely step on and change everything the fans liked about the franchise.

So many stories they could’ve gone with that didn’t even involve Master Chief as well. And if they wanted to do their own thing they could’ve just picked a different time and place and used original characters telling whatever story. Fans would’ve been bummed to not see MC, but it would’ve avoided having to tip-toe around established canon.

But nope, they said screw canon, just make shit up instead.

Or M Night Shyamalan, who clearly understood Avatar perfectly but made it terrible on purpose so he wouldn’t have to make two more.

Nothing else explains keeping the Earthbenders in a quarry.

Ok, I have never seen Avatar the last Airbender, at all. Not the series, or the shitty movie, but even I am questioning how one would trap an earthbender in a quarry…much less multiple earthbenders. All I know is the firebenders started it.

Yeah, in the show they were imprisoned on a metal platform at sea, as far from rock as possible, which makes way more sense. At least until somebody invented Metalbending later in the series.

Holy shit this is a Kbin glitch? I 100% believed the author of the article was just a huge nerd who had found a way to relate Clarence Thomas to Lutan. It… it seemed reasonable somehow…

It’s an image caching bug with kbin. Seems he posted his link the same time they posted that article and kbin decided to use that as the wapo thumbnail. Sometimes it’s naked ladies, but this time it was directly traceable.

        Having never watched star trek:

Jokey answer: recess but they have access to deadly weaponry and only the strongest will make it to maths class.

Serious answer: I presume this is some kind of proof-by-combat scenario? A local culture demands the protagonists fight one of their own in some cactus-pugilism jungle-gym arena in order to prove their worth, and only then will they grant them whatever boon they asked of these people?

Pretty close! as I recall it’s some honor based thing? the story isn’t… very good. iirc the main king guy wanted to bone the star trek lady that’s fighting in that clip, which upset his favorite wife, so the wife challenged the star trek lady to combat to the death. Why said combat takes place in a jungle gym is anyones guess.

Ok I followed your instructions to a T. It looks to be like a combination of Ru Paul’s Drag Race (and I mean this in the best way possible) and a professional game of parkour chase tag.

Was I close? I’d love to know what’s actually happening!

Edit: OK I read some comments and it’s a battle for life and death. Fuck me.

The episode is an absolute disaster. Widely regarded to be one of the worst, if not the worst, episodes of any Trek show. Super racist trash heap. Was like… The fourth episode of TNG. The cast have asked it to be removed from streaming and syndication

Well, come on then! What’s the story in the screenshot :P My very shallow awareness of TOS suggests it may well be #1, but could also be #3, which is hilarious to think of but less funny if that’s actually what’s going on 😅

I vaguely remember that they were being held captive and the devices would punish them for misbehaving. Like, some guy lived with a bunch of female robot slaves or something and the episode ended with him having to live with a robot version of his deceased henpecking wife? Shit I don’t know, it’s been like 30 years since I watched the original series…
