I think Homage to Catalonia is an important read. It’s a great account of things that can go wrong in a resistance, despite amazing people and incredible efforts.

Check your local library for many WW2 historical accounts of the french resistance. Madam Fourcades secret war, Virginia Hill are a couple of my favorites.

Also memoirs from FBI and CIA agents, and anything on SOE, Churchills “Special Operations Executive” division which had as its objective to defeat the Germans covertly in Nazi occupied France, which he started because he wanted more results than the old school tie boys in traditional British intelligence.

For that matter accounts of the beginnings of the American CIA in WW2 are interesting too.

On all these, enough time has passed that there aren’t national security concerns any more, technology changes but the principles are always the same. Interesting reading and you can learn a lot, especially how networks are penetrated and how spies were caught.

i think everyone should be made aware that although libraries absolutely do everything they can to protect patron privacy, your checkout history does exist somewhere, and all of that data (and honestly, all data hosted by a corporate entity) basically belongs to trump now.

moving forward, you should be safely and anonymously pirating anything that might be seen as “subversive”

also related: you need to get rid of the idea that information or ideas (copyright) belongs to any one person (or corporation), and that it’s somehow “unethical” to obtain that information without paying for it. fuck that. there is no such thing as “piracy”

Love these. A Woman of No Importance is a fantastic Virginia Hall book. Just fucking amazing the shit she did.

Others in this genre: Code Name Lise, D-Day Girls, and one of the many Nancy Wake books - Code Name Helene, Nancy Wake: WWII’s Most Courageous Spy, etc.

And you can also get the SOE Manual.
