Anyone else more excited for Super Mario Bros Wonder then the Super Mario RPG remake? I didn’t really think it needed a remake. You can play it everywhere. Pretty sure it’s on Nintendo Online and then there is the SNES classic too. The graphical style in which high def models are turned into sprites are just so mid-90’s. Replacing those with just generic HD Mario models seem a little lackluster or boring.

I have played Mario RPG a few times in my life, including once within the past couple of years. The remake looks like a straight remaster with updated graphics, so I don’t really have any desire to play it again, especially if it means paying $60 or whatever it will cost. But I think this game isn’t really aimed at me. There are a lot of people who never played the original, including lots of young kids who weren’t around when it came out. I think that is the main audience for this remake. And for them, I think this will be an exciting release, because the game is still awesome.

I am very excited for both games, but the visual style of Super Mario Wonder looks stunning, I’m really glad they innovated with the visuals. We’ve been having the same plain looking 3d models for a while now and this is like a breath of fresh air.

I’ll probably skip Super Mario RPG, unless they pull a FF7.

I played the whole of the original, and it was fantastic.

That said, I think the target audience is folks that missed RPG the first time and want to experience it withv some rough edges sanded off. For that, I think it will be fantastic, again.

I never played the original, but it’s been on my list since back when I was still playing on emulators… Never got around to get it for Virtual Console either. So I am considering buying the remake once it’s released!

I will probably also buy Wonder!

I’ve never played the original Mario RPG, so kinda excited to try it finally.

I just hope Super Mario Wonder doesn’t feel too gimmicky, and that it has varied gameplay and mechanics.

I’ve seen like 3 reaction YouTubers pretty much groan when they first saw the Mario Bros trailer. That’s really stupid if that’s the concensus, because it looks really creative and cool. If more Mario Bros games are like that I’m all for it.

I’m excited to see everything they do with the remake, mainly the music, but I’m also more excited for Wonder. It looks like a much needed breath of fresh air for 2D Mario.

I played a lot of SMRPG as a child and the remake looks so faithful and beautiful so I’m definitely more excited by that. But my wife did not, and she loves side scrolling Mario, so she’s more excited for Wonder. Looks like we’ll be getting both.

I’m excited for both! RPG will have the nostalgia factor and maybe some extra QOL stuff or content. Wonder is a totally new game which is exciting. It also looked weird which is a win in my book.

I’m excited for both, but I’m more excited about Wonder as well. I love 2D Mario games, and I was able to enjoy NSMBWii and NSMBU just fine; however, finishing U made me not want another standard 2D Mario game unless they were going to innovate like Rayman did with Origins/Legends or even Donkey Kong did with Returns/Tropical Freeze.

The new trailer showed off so many features that are brand-new, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. I could be wrong, but it also felt a lot like the reveal of 3D World where the first trailer was fine, but the second was bonkers and made it go from looking good to amazing.

I honestly don’t care for remakes… I’m a fan of remasters when they’re done right though. I think Super Mario Bros Wonder looks very creative in gameplay and animation. I think the game may also have weirded people out a bit, and that may be why no one is talking about it. I really hope it succeeds, I feel Nintendo has been lacking creativity recently (that’s just my opinion though)

What would you say the difference between a remake and a remaster is? Seem the same to me.

A remake changes little about the original game, only the graphics and sometimes the platform. A remaster enhances some of the weaker points of the game like map design, combat, and many other things. I’ll use some examples. In the Halo Master Chief Collection, the only change in the original Halo game was the graphics (you could even switch between the old and new graphics with the tab key) In Black Mesa (a remaster of Half-Life) the game not only improved the graphics, it also improved upon the enemy AI, battlefields (even maps in general), and weapons. It also linked the story closer to Half-Life 2 and entirely re imagined Xen. So it’s all really what changes are made.

Other way around. A remake is just that, a remake of the original game from the ground up. A remaster is just touching up the graphics.
