Rastafari isn’t actually that cool, especially not when it comes to gay people. They are also strongly opposed to oral and anal in heterosexual couples and are generally quite patriarchal. Have a read: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rastafari
Also, afrocentrism is one of its core ideas, which makes it pretty weird when white people convert to it (e.g. Gentleman, a German reggea singer).
Also, weed is still illegal in Jamaica. I assume it gets tolerated somewhat, at least with the Rastafaris, but it’s technically illegal.
Also also, Jamaican rum is really good! It’s a very special style, no one makes it quite like they do.
Nothing quite like a funky Jamaican pot still style rum. So good.
lol some of the “cool” stuff are explicitly against homosexuality. Like Rastafari and Reggae (not all) Lots of homophobic lyrics in reggae music. And often just calling for straight up murder of gays like the song Boom Bye Bye by Bunju Banton which is a very popular song in Jamaica.
This was decades ago. There was a Reggae Revival in the 2010ths, lots of great artists which stopped promoting homophobia, sexism, greed and violence. The US were super homophobic a couple of decades ago as well. So let’s not judge this island too hard, it comes from a rough past, change needs time.
If it wasn’t for the weed-smoking, nobody would think that Rastafarianism is cool.
Rasta is a whacko pseudo-Christian religion that controls women by enforcing archaic purity standards on them. The only people who think it is “cool” are abusers and ignorant white dudes with dreads who want to justify their substance use.
It’s a likkle more than that
