  • Oh, I absolutely want corporations to pay for what they do to us and our childrens lifes! And I agree recycling is (mostly) a scam. But stop eating animals is not a distraction from systemic change, it fuels it. Animal Agriculture is a vile industry build on exploitation and destruction, the evidence is only a click away if you dare to look at it. And you, Lobotomo, pay this industry daily to keep going. Destroying ecosystems, polluting communities, exploiting workers, killing sentient being by the billions. You could exclude your family from this today, but you deliberately choose not to. I’m asking you to take the most obvious babystep out of the global suicide machine. It’s a big FUCK YOU to Corporate Farming as well, and everybody likes that. :)
I know it’s not the solution, I’m not an idiot. Please keep fighting, you can do both! But no solution will be enough without us changing what we eat.

  • I can’t believe nothing is coming from the sane half of the country. This will not get any better. So where is the attitude, the boldness, the pride, the ego, the guns, everything that shaped my view of what the US are in the past decades? Where are you?! Writing comments on the internet while people disappear in real life.
I’m going to quote Erich Kästner again:

The events from 1933 to 1945 should have been combated by 1928 at the latest. Later it was too late. We must not wait until the fight for freedom is called treason. We must not wait until the snowball has turned into an avalanche. The rolling snowball must be crushed. No one can stop the avalanche. It only comes to rest when it has buried everything beneath it.
    Erich Kästner, 1958

  • I kinda disagree. Social media, even this very harmless version of it, is great for building opinions. But it’s not great at making stuff happen in the real world. I will never meet anyone from Lemmy. It might be comforting to write about guillotines here, posting angry articles, but we in general and especially you Americans need to leave this save zone and actually do something. Fast. With your bodies. In the real world. Show up! Being online is a trap, it makes you feel like you’re participating while it eats you time and kills your energy. Greta Thunberg stopped going to school, wrote a sign and sat down.

Get Signal, gather some local people and do stuff.

    Edit:
I agree it can be a challenge. Showing up and meeting a handful of people in the rain can be frustrating and disappointing. But there is no other way and these are real life experiences you will talk and bond about. Sorry for the pep talk. :)

    Edit:
I’m not saying you should leave. I love Lemmy! Use it as a tool, not a solution. And a messenger is much more helpful to organize you locally.
