I have a close friend that I’ve known 20 years who became obsessed with right-wing politics. even though I’m liberal, I don’t make it my entire personality and life. But anyway… I was talking to him this morning casually like friends do.

Me: “Hey man. Do you have off today for MLK day?” Friend: “No, I have to work today.” Me: “Damn, sorry to hear. I have off today since it’s a company holiday.” Friend: “Yeah, I work for a living. Guess that’s the difference me and people who live in an ivory tower.” Me: “Uhh I work for a living too. Idk why you’re acting like I don’t?” Friend: “I didn’t mean you specifically. But you’re off and I’m not so it shows that you get to relax at least. You should be able to handle the truth lol. There’s no shame in admitting that I’m a harder worker than everyone else. you shouldn’t be so sensitive”

Honestly, he’s not unique, either. I’ve met so many people who are conservative, obsessed with right-wing stuff, and they’re all like this. They act like they’re special and the whole world is lazy, “no one wants to work anymore” attitude.

You’ve got it backwards. Toxic and aggressive people become conservatives (in Anglo countries) because it serves them emotionally.

Occasionally one is too queer to successfully do that, and have to find an alternate outlet, like stanning for North Korea or something.

idk, I know a gay conservative. Extremely stupid and selfish. He’s not even “normal gay” or whatever. He’s like some caricature out of a 90’s sitcom. Him and his boyfriend have the most toxic, untrusting relationship. I avoid him as much as possible.

Yeah, I’ve heard of that. Like, who’s that guy with the Greek name? I’ve also heard of gay fascists flip-flopping to the Wakanda North Korea thing.

Also, shout out to the gay weed-growing libertarians who get lumped in with fascists as “conservative”. I see you.

Milo something-or-another? That guy is a grifter before anything else. He fell out of favor when he praised his childhood molester and later reinvented himself as a “cured former-homosexual”.

The assertion that your friend is a harder worker might not ge true. I have had to work many holidays in retail because my job said I had to not because Im a harder worker.

Not sure about moist ;p haha, but he doesn’t sound like a friend. At the very least, not one I for one, would consider so.

Even if you were better off than him, not that it sounds like it or I am inferring it, he shouldn’t have to be an outright prick.

Playing the devils advocate though, reading your conversations without the right tone, I am wondering if he might have thought you were bragging about the day off.

What do you mean by moist? 🤔

he shouldn’t have to be an outright prick

I think he has no idea of self-perception. It seems like he is completely oblivious to it.

Religious conservatives are trained from childhood to unwaveringly believe things that can’t be proven, and teaches that malice is the only acceptable way to get dopamine.

People are weird honestly. I’ve met crazy people on other sides of Tue political spectrum. Your friend doesn’t seem all that bad from a extreme right perspective.

I could care less about most of the political rhetoric some of these people get involved with. On the right it is about the lazy immigrants and on the left it is how cars are going cause the total destruction of planet Earth.

You understand you’re equating two vastly different things, right? One idea is rooted in scientific research and the other is rooted in racism and bigotry. If those two things seem equal to you then you’re not paying as much attention as you think you are.

A lot of climate rhetoric is focused on inducing panic. In practice it is a complex problem that rushed policies can’t fix.

We’ve known about the dangers of climate change since the 70s. Is it really any wonder that after five decades of inaction, the “rhetoric” has changed from “Hey, maybe we should work to reduce emissions” to “A lot of people are going to die if we don’t take action right now!”

I mean if hes not working and other people are at any time then they are the hard workers. Im ok with not being a hard worker though. Im more of a work smarter type person but his type is good to.

Having a work ethic is one thing. But it isn’t inherently satisfying to the ego unless you feel yours is better than others’, and lord it over them. Some people just can’t maintain their motivation without this.

This guy could learn a lot from women. The world is full of women who bust their ASS and never complain or brag or get a single second of recognition.
