A red button. Image says: ‘Would you press the button?’ [results of pressing the button:] there exists a pill that makes your disability a LOT less debilitating BUT it’s near-impossible to get because the non-disabled enjoy taking the pill for fun and the government doesn’t want them to.

For me it’s, “… But you hate the way the medicine makes you feel so you refuse to take it despite knowing it would make many aspects of your life more manageable.”

Common problem with a lot of meds, including antidepressants and antipsychotics. I knew someone who didn’t want to take their meds because it made them fat, and that was to counteract delusions and paranoia from schizophrenia. It’s been decades, so I think the meds are better but the point is, yeah, lots of people have to pick and even if the side effects are less bad, you’re actively having to choose to cause that to yourself.

I wish methylphenidate didn’t make me feel like my heart is about to explode if I take it for more than 4 days in a row

I am right there with you too. I wish any of the medication options worked for me.
