Absolutely. Psychogically you can “know” that you’re okay, and people seem to like you for who you are, the same way someone with OCD can “know” they don’t have to do that thing over and over again. That doesn’t necessarily change the compulsion or address the anxiety.
I don’t think people do this because their friends don’t like who they really are… It’s a compulsion I think.
