Elon Musk declared on X the formation of a new political party amid his ongoing feud with President Donald Trump over the “Big Beautiful Bill.”

“Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom,” Musk wrote in an X post on Saturday.

The Tesla CEO had said Friday on his social media platform that one way the new party could work is to focus on winning just a handful of Senate seats and House districts that could serve as the “deciding vote” on “contentious laws,” given the “razor-thin legislative margins” in Congress.

In response, Trump said on his Truth Social platform on Sunday that Musk had gone “completely off the rails.”

The only explanation for this is that Trump basically milked Musk’s popularity with dumb people and kept him around until Musk was no longer useful. Musk on the other hand thought he was going to control Trump to be a shadow president on his crazy drug-induced power trip but got a reality check and now his ego is hurt and is making a fuss. I doubt this will gain any traction, to build a political party is extremely expensive, Reps and Dems have hundreds of rich people behind them for greasing the wheels, plus brand recognizability and organized people and community presence. The most we can tell from this is that billionaires still need a political front to push their agenda and see how many times can Musk fail without losing his fortune.

I really hate the term ‘freedom’ now. It’s thrown around so much and it means basically nothing anymore. “Join this! Now with 20% more freedom!”. Freedom to/from what? It’s never stated, it’s just a vibe.

It’s been like that for decades now, going back at least to George W. Bush saying that Al Qaeda “hates us for our freedoms”.

I have entertained the idea that Musk hacked the vote tabulations. If it’s true, Trump would lose his mind knowing his one and only richman was hacking for someone else now.

It will almost certainly pull some votes from Trump but whether that’s enough to make a difference or not will depend on if the DNC can get out of the way long enough to find a candidate anybody actually wants to vote for or if they’ll run another “we’ll change nothing and you’ll like it” candidate.

if they’ll run another “we’ll change nothing and you’ll like it” candidate.

Newsom is already prepping for that role.

Newsom has a solid chance to get primaries, fact of the matter is he is the worst California has to offer and is only so useful as a potential martyr should the feds kill him. Or maybe I’m just a Inland Imperial who would happily feed folks to the waters over at greenspot.

I mean in fairness, they’ve always had Jill Steins. We can bitch about the spoiler effect and yell at our guys for voting, but election after election when you look at people focusing the blame on the greens when we lose, liberterians and other right wing parties, always have more votes than left wing 3rd parties.

Also sadly it sounds like musk is actually planning to do the strategic right way to do a new party. IE focus on house and senate seats to basically to threaten narrow votes.

In short it sounds more like he’s making the republican’s “Manchins”.

Even senate and house seats are a big step. The best way would be your local state senate, house, and mayoral positions. This is the best way to build a grassroots movement and get more people on your side.

Kettles aren’t black, they’re metallic, and when the pot calls the kettle black, it only sees its own reflection. But both Musk and Trump are turds. No need for reflection

He’s not wrong, there are people disillusioned with both parties. But if Elon thinks we’re all idiots, and will flock to other nazi party, I’ve got a bridge to sell him.

Maybe some of the center right, and magas who’ve been personally wronged by the Trumpsters will swing that way, but he’s gonna find the left isn’t quite as stupid as he thinks.

Split the vote ding dong, go on, do it. I dare you.

If someone else had started a third party, it might have pulled support from both parties. But, I think there aren’t many democrats who will join his party after he did so much to get Trump elected, then worked for his government for a while.

I hope he throws billions at this project, because IMO the only thing it might do is fracture the GOP base.

I wish I shared your optimism. Nothing in my experience of life tells me that betting on the left, especially their elected representatives, to not do something stupid is a good plan.

By “left” I’m assuming you mean liberals. “The left” doesn’t really have elected politicians. Unless you count Mamdani and he’s not even fully elected yet.

This is not a political party, it is something else.

A component of a political platform is often called a plank – the opinions and viewpoints about an individual topic, as held by a party, person, or organization. The word “plank” depicts a component of an overall political platform, as a metaphorical reference to a basic stage made of boards or planks of wood

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_platform

Platforms are built with planks, Elon has no platform.

The right-wing political power machine has been running on vibes instead of sincerely held beliefs for a while now.

People who like Musk better than Trump will just make up bullshit about both to justify their choice.
