The Trump administration has delayed and may cancel roughly $140 million in grants to fund fentanyl overdose response efforts, according to four staff members with close knowledge of the process at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The staffers shared detailed information with NPR about the funding disruption and potential cuts on the condition of anonymity, saying they don’t have permission to speak publicly about their concerns and feared retribution from the Trump administration if identified.
So he declared fentanyl from Canada a National Emergency to give himself an excuse to use emergency powers, and is now trying to stop the government from doing anything to combat the actual harm of fentanyl.
He’s so fucking transparent, but most Americans read below the seventh grade level so it doesn’t matter.
So the flimsy excuse he used to enact global fucking tariffs by blatantly abusing the state of emergency powers… Is even more flimsy now.
Which is it Donald, are we Canadians an emergency or is fentanyl not a priority?
It’s both. This is how fascists operate. And they will laugh at and mock you for your puzzlement.
It’s an emergency so he could enact tariffs. But he doesn’t want people to get better so that can still point to fentanyl and keep invoking emergency powers.
Its not a priority to help anyone…
I do get a bit of a personal chuckle out of reading this. As I’m reading this, I’m literally in the middle of an argument with a bunch of people in the reddit politics sub who actually support Trump bullying Canada around, saying “Canada needs the US more than the US needs Canada, so of course we should negotiate”, the $1.3 billion deal was for “Infrastructure jobs and better border security”, and “we’re gonna have to pay some tariffs to the US and if we don’t Canada’s economy will crumble”
Trying to explain to them that negotiating with Trump in good faith is a non-starter was itself a non-starter. I certainly hope that their opinion wasn’t the opinion of the people of Canada in general.
Lmao when that one idiot hit you with “I think you have me confused with Mark Carney” god damn I hate Redditors so much
If the fentanyl users die by overdose due to lack of funding to properly respond to the overdoses then the US saves money and reduces the number of fentanyl users. It’s all win-win! /s
There are so many people who actually think that way.
China, if you’re listening…
