The ascent of Bari Weiss, who Paramount announced on Monday will be editor-in-chief of CBS News, at first glance seems like a media story. But it’s really a story about American politics and the two major parties. There is a new kind of “moderate” Republican, perhaps best exemplified by Weiss. And this kind of Republican is poised to keep gaining power and shifting the country to the right in harmful and destructive ways, even if they never have the political power of more explicitly pro-Trump conservatives.
Uh… MTG? Le Pen? Alice Wiedel? Hell, Meloni? Conservatives, for all their rhetoric, aren’t much opposed to women in power as long as they’re pushing their abhorrent agenda.
They’ll use just about anyone strategically. At the end of the day, (and individuals and some examples of modern party representations aside), at it’s core liberalism is about equality and conservativism is about hierarchy.
There’s room for you until there ain’t. And when you’re no longer needed for those at the top of the hierarchy (in ascending order with very little wiggle room: Male<WASP<Generational Wealth Trifecta) then you’re getting kicked off the lifeboat and thrown to the sharks. You shouldn’t even be upset about it bc you knew how the game was played.
No hard feelings and congrats! You were so close to making it this time. You won’t make it next time either, or the time after that, but maybe just do some laps and try again in a few more generational cycles (lulz!). Be sure to use those bootstraps to keep yourself afloat, and remember, sharks can smell fear, so do try to keep the thrashing and hysterical theatrics to a minimum. Thnx!
