Senate Republicans are grumbling that President Trump undercut their strategy for ending the government shutdown when he said that he’s willing to cut “the right deal” with Democrats on health care.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) scheduled three votes this week on a House-passed bill to reopen the government and keep it funded through Nov. 21 but failed to pick up any additional Democratic votes for the measure.

Some Republican senators worry Trump’s remarks convinced many Democrats the president will eventually make significant concessions.

One Republican senator who requested anonymity to avoid angering Trump said that the president’s comments about being open to a “deal” with Democrats had “muddied” the Republican shutdown strategy.

trump wants a shutdown, he’ll sabotage any efforts to reopen the government.

So he’s giving Dems false hope, but only a total fucking idiot like Chuck Schumer would be trying to negotiate with trump in 2025 from across the aisle and expect good faith

      No, I disagree here.

Trump wants his name in the headlines, and also wants to make deals he can “win” (whatever that means). There is always room to negotiate whenever Trump is in charge. You should expect him to break any “deal” immediately, though, so you should not make any deals that do not have an immediate payoff.

The Project 2025 folks, on the other hand, want to make government so small it can drown it in the bathtub. They would shut down the (non-military) government permanently if given the chance.

Ultimately, I think this is why Democrats are picking this fight now. They think they see a window where they can make the two factions fight. I am not sure it will work, but it looks better than doing nothing.

Perhaps, but with his advanced dementia I wonder if he might get the Democrats and Republicans confused.

There’s a good chance he starts slipping into the past to when he was a neo liberal donor to such an extent he had the Clinton’s at one of his weddings…

Like how Biden kept slipping to the “good old days” when he’s fight against school desegregation in the day, or push Clarence Thomas onto the SC, and then enjoy whiskey and cigars with Senate Republicans.

I think a big reason trump is so mad at the left for “not being nice” is he keeps slipping back to when neoliberal Dems in powerful positions wouldn’t stop kissing his ass for donations.

He could very well just not understand why they don’t like him now…

Yeah, I also disagree. Trump is not now, nor was he ever a brilliant strategist. This shutdown is bad, and he knows it, so he’s going to try to make a deal so he can autograph more of his books. He doesn’t give a single shit about government, the country, or party lines. He will sellout everyone, no question.

This shutdown is bad, and he knows it,

He may or may not understand it’s bad for most Americans…

But he absolutely understands that if the House goes back in session they have to seat new members, which means the House has the votes to force an official vote to release the Epstein list, which could very well actually pass…

He’s not a brilliant strategist, but he cares what happens to himself, and every cabinet member has a vested interest to keep him personally in power, and to keep him aware of threats to his leadership.

And the Epstein list and losing control.of the House are pretty much the only two things on that list, both of which are highly relevant here.

It may sound like a deep cut to you, but this is the main and really only shit he cares about.

The Epstein list isn’t a major deal. As shocking as that is, it’s the real truth. So, what happens when they release the files? He gets more convictions? The Epstein files are just as much smoke and mirror as anything else he posts. He’s the president, elected after being convicted, not charged, convicted. None of it matters to him. Your “deep cut” was as deep as a puddle, broseph.

. None of it matters to him.

You legitimately think trump doesn’t care about the Epstein list?!

Your “deep cut” was as deep as a puddle, broseph.

            It’s not deep at all…

That was the point, saying it was superficial…

You completely misunderstood it, fucked around, and agreed with me despite still not understanding what I’m saying.

I’m not even mad, I’m impressed
