One time I was looking for my doggo and called out “Marley!?”
Marley came around the corner and looked disheveled and a little annoyed. It caught me off guard and I forgot what I wanted her for in the first place and said “Oh Nevermind.” She did a 180 and went right back to sleep in the other room. No curiosity, no wondering if I had food. Girl was tired and understood perfect English in that moment lol
She was so tired she forgot she was pretending to be a dog
One of mine just screams from the other end of the house and expects me to come to her. She’s definitely thinking about me, but in a “Human! Come here and entertain me!” kind of way…
i was worried i taught him that. i used to yell “where my kitties at” and they’d come running from wherever. it’s a little late for that, but i’ll see if it [edit:] works tomorrow
My neighbor’s cat is mostly deaf. Because of this, he is so loud when he meows. When he’s outside, we occasionally hear him meowing. He’s seeing who will come and entertain him. The first time I heard it, I went to make sure he was okay. He was just chilling. He didn’t want me to pet him, but he also didn’t want me to leave.
One of mine used to do exactly the same, but I’ve learned that it’s never an emergency so I don’t have to get all worried and go check it out.
So now she yells at me from the next room and after a bit of back and forth meowing and me calling for her, she comes to me doing that adorable trotting run and gets the strokes and scritches and attention she was after to begin with 😁🥰
Our orange cat does this too. I wonder what goes through his brain cell sometimes.

This is a kinda self-centered take. It’s entirely possible that the animal was just going for a walk thinking about something else, and just seeing you immediately reminded them that they like hanging out with you.
Also, the jump from “any fleeting interest” to “that’s unconditional love” is quite jarring!
Definitely not for me. While an argument could be made he just wanted to explore the room,my cat very often just wants to be in rooms where people are. Because he occasionally pees in my room if I’m not looking (it’s rare, but has happened bout 5-6 times in the less than year we’ve owned him) I tend to keep him out of the room if I’m on meetings or doing something I can’t drop, plus overnight.
He will moan and complain some of those time, but if I open the door then go downstairs ne start doing something, he’ll follow me there too. He also sometimes just leaves the room if I use the bathroom, because no one is in it anymore. Though we kinda lucked out personalitywise anyway. He likes being picked up and held, and is often affectionate.
“I’ll bet they’re eating something. I should check.”
More a case of “oh, I haven’t been in that room for a while, better see what’s in there… Oh yes, I forgot that thing exists.”
Leaving the scene of the latest crime.
Lord: “I haven’t informed my peasant about how amazing I am in some time now. I must remedy this immediately”
cat enters room and exaggerated meows
Peasant: “awe, so adorable!”
Lord: “You will pay for this insolence!”
We used to have a tabby that didn’t just walk into a room. She announced her presence loudly so all of us could honor her royal highness. She made an Entrance.
I sometimes called her the audio engineer - she’d find the places that echoed the most to let loose her loudest meows.
I miss her so much. 8lbs of pure personality. She’d cuddle with me at night, she would show up and demand I lift the blanket, then she’d curl up with me under the covers for a while.
In her mind, she was the queen. The house still feels quiet without her, and she’s been gone 5 years.

It sounds like she lived a good life, and you treated her well. That’s all we can hope to do when our lives are forever changed by a furry friend like that.

My boy likes to cry when he sees me, lead me towards the pantry (crying all the way), and then walk up to the bag where his food is and look back at me like he’s helping me figure out how to feed him.
(unless there’s food already in his bowl, in which case he likes when I pet him while he’s eating; he’s a social eater)
