Step 1: Tariff everybody! Step 2: Refund the importers. Step 3: Wait for the refunds to trickle down to the people who paid them…

For what it’s worth, my small business paid upwards of $6k, and we ate the cost instead of passing it on to the customer (who had already preordered the product). It would be a huge win for people like me.

If it only helped people like you, I’d have no problems with that.

My problem is it’ll primarily help the guys who orchestrated this. Trump’s Commerce Secretary Loves Tariffs. His Former Investment Bank Is Taking Bets Against Them | WIRED

Doing that you only helped the Orange in bringing in even more tariffs.

How dare they not screw over their customers?

Gawd. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t around here.

Who screwed them in first place, eh? So, the short term effect of tariffs doesn’t show any inflation which makes the Orange go - look, no inflation, I should impose even more tariffs. Which scenario is better for customers in mid-long term then? Short one when inflation hits hard and TACO or this, when businesses silently pay and suffer while consumers will be hit harder later on?

Refund the countries they charged the tariffs from. They did say they were the ones who were going to pay then after all.

That sounds almost like a bar joke… Except it isn’t funny, or a joke
