The blogger who reported on the Wuhan pandemic - sentenced two months ago to another four years in prison - has been taken to a new detention centre for ‘education’ sessions. Meanwhile, the former abbot of Shaolin Temple, who fell from grace in July for being too ‘independent’, has now been sent to prison on charges of corruption.

Two months after her new sentence of four more years in prison, Zhang Zhan - the blogger and Christian human rights activist who first reported on the pandemic in Wuhan - has been moved without warning to a new detention facility with no possibility of contact with her family.

This was discovered by her lawyer, who went to visit her at the Pudong Detention Centre in Shanghai and was told that it was impossible because she had been transferred. Only after Reporters Without Borders – which awarded her the Press Freedom Award in 2021 and has been following her case for some time – made the news public did the local authorities announce that she is now in the Women’s Prison, also in Shanghai but in the Songjiang district.

According to what Zhang Zhan’s mother was told, she was sent to this new location for a month of “education” and visits are not allowed.

After already serving four years in prison, on 19 September, in a closed-door trial in a Shanghai court , Zhang Zhan was again convicted on charges of disturbing social order and provoking quarrels for travelling to Gansu province to meet human rights activist Zhang Pancheng, who was arrested for participating in protests in defence of workers who had been treated unfairly.

‘We are deeply concerned about her situation,’ said Antoine Bernal of Reporters Without Borders. ‘The international community must not remain silent. It must call for an end to this shameful persecution of this heroine of journalism.’

          Of course I’m angry. Tankies defending a state-capitalist autocracy pisses me off, as it should any rational, progressive human being. The “Internet tough-guy calling people angry” schtick doesn’t dissuade china’s aggression to the sovereign nation of Taiwan, un-genocide any Ugyhur lives, or free China’s “totally not homeless” population out of the concentration camps the state uses to hold up their economy. My anger is well directed, and your attempt to belittle that isn’t the “own” that you and your fascist ilk seem to believe it is.

          Fuck the States. This thread isn’t about them, their history of racism, or their rapid descent into fascism. This thread is about China disappearing a dissenter for “reeducation,” and this conversation is about how you’re a fresh account, happy to dismiss any criticism of your glorious fascist state as “American propaganda” with no logic other than “they said stuff I don’t like so it must be an American psyop.” No amount of whataboutism will change that you’re a dishonest actor, openly mocking one imperialist nation, while shilling for another.

            You keep throwing the word fascism around, but clearly have no idea what it means. A dictator of the proletariat is not a fascist, it’s the exact opposite. It’s a progressive (another word you’re misusing) step towards communism.

                You simply aren’t educated on the topics. China is basically going the Marx route to communism. It’s what most leftists support, not liberalism, which is a right wing ideology.

                I just had surgery and don’t have the energy to argue.

                There’s plenty to read for free @ marxists.org

                There are different branches of leftism, but none of those branches include liberalism. Sooner or later you’ll have to accept the fact you’re a right winger.

                  Kindly, you need to educate yourself about the Chinese economy. If you insist on being an ultrafan, then know your fandom. For a gentle start, look up the Gini coefficient for various countries from Wikipedia.

                  You’re saying Marx while advocating for a Stalin-style dictatorship. Any proletariat uprising that depends on a separate class to perform in any position of dictatorship is a fascist - as was the case with Russia - or capitalist - as in China - regime in disguise.

                  I have never claimed to support any form of liberalism. That was a stance you imposed on me when I attacked your politics.

                  But, I digress, you kept it civil, I’ll take the opportunity to flip my attitude and do the same. While I still do not respect your politics, everyone deserves proper care, and everyone deserves to rest. I genuinely do hope you heal well.

        Agreed, but the liberals chose to stand by Nazi Germany rather than fight fascism next to the communists. Liberalism is the reason fascism is still an issue.

        There’s a gigantic difference between the 99% running things vs the 1%. Sharing articles so obviously fabricated by the 1% isn’t helping the working class.
