tl;dr: r/AmITheAsshole?

So I’m a Reddit refugee late by two years. Before all, I’m from somewhere you’ll need VPNs to access the real Internet, and people aren’t familiar with how Reddit works.

I got permabanned in an anime subreddit for calling out someone straightly said “the manga is f***ing disgusting” bc fanservices. My language is at worse “I hope you’re satisfied rubbing your uncivilizedness into [manga author]'s face” and my ban reason was “mean language & hate”.

Well it was just a ban in one singular sub and smaller subs for same anime exists. But my deadass didn’t think through and rage-deleted my 3y-old Reddit account, planning to “start again” before learning how Reddit treats newcomers, alt accounts and VPN users the hard way.

Now I have created some alts and all got either banned or shadowbanned for "ban evasion ", or may had smth to do with me using VPNs. Ofc I had to use an alt account now since I can’t retreat to my old one. I can’t even browse Reddit without logging in bc “blocked by network security”.

I admit it’s my fault rage-deleting my account recklessly; I admit it’s not Reddit’s fault they had to prevent spam and ban-evasion; but do I really deserved this?

Having turned my sub-wide ban into a Reddit-wide ban and learnt my lesson, I’m now here in Lemmy.

I’m UK based and our horrendous new privacy invading rules mean that I couldn’t even see r/beer without providing my passport to Reddit’s ID service.

Unwilling to do that, I used Proton VPN to evade the clutches of the IDwalling. At some point they’ve detected it and perma-banned me from the entire platform. So frustrating.

AITA is mostly bots, a while ago, and then it switched to being mostly AI written. AITA is usually the ones you start out as a semi-fresh account, so they are more lenient somewhat.

its definitely the vpn, reddit detects very easily, they ban as soon you turn it off. if you arnt SHADOWBAN, you still might able to visit reddit, just dont use the same devices, or accounts you got in the first place.(permantly avoid the sub)

Now that I think of it, you’re right about how concluding someone “rubbed their words into author’s face” isn’t quite true nor constructive.

I had been following reddiquette etiquette for three years straight before the incident, and could promise to do better in Lenny. Thanks for your warm welcome.

I’m sorry that it all happened that way. I believe in most spaces, your comment would’ve just been removed if it was seen as uncivil - if any action was taken at all. If you hit the vertical … on comments or look at the footer, you will notice that moderation logs are public here on the fediverse which brings a greater level of accountability to moderators and users alike.

Truly, I hope you have a good time here and I look forward to seeing you around!

If you went back to the same subreddit then yes you deserved it as it’s against the rules…

I did… but only on my first alt. And my following alts got banned even thought I didn’t go back…

      Guess I still deserved it…
