The only purpose of DHS is to repress Americans. The excuse they used to create it (to resolve lack of communication between intelligence services) could have been solved with a minor office in the FBI for a tiny, tiny fraction of the cost. They wanted a tool of repression and so they used a terrorist attack to fund one.

Your representative most likely doesn’t give a shit about that stuff.

You guys are witnessing fascist secret police executing people on the streets with state backing and you are acting like these people care are suddenly gonna care about rule of law.

      It was fake, always was!

There are functions that I’m sure ICE/DHS did or do that are probably necessary for the country. But ICE/DHS are fundamentally corrupted. They need to be eliminated, and we need new departments that are accountable, and chartered in a way that they can’t grow into the corrupt beasts that ICE/DHS are.

Everything ICE/DHS did/does (officially, not murder), was done before ICE existed. It was created for the purpose it’s fulfilling now. INS and USCS already existed.

The point of the creation of DHS (and by extension ICE) was to give the Bush admin a way to utilize the over-reaching powers they granted themselves after the World Trade Center. Because they believed in a Unitarian executive, they wanted all power under the Presidents direct control, and out of agencies that may not go along with their agenda.

Well, the beast ate it’s own fucking tail didn’t it.

I keep seeing this idea float around that there is some perfect organizational method to government that will prevent corruption. I don’t think that’s possible. All forms of government rely on the people involved acting in good faith. At the end of the day there are only two things that keep any governmental system functioning as intended:

      1. the internal moral judgment of government officials (for those that have morals)
      2. fear of consequences (for those that have no morals)

Clearly the US is currently dealing with those who have no morals, which means the primary problem is that they do not fear consequences. It is incumbent on the citizens to ensure #2 is in place, in the absence of #1. The US is failing miserably in that respect.

Democratic Party leadership will not allow this to happen. They serve the same wealthy individuals and corporations as the Republicans, and those factions need a paramilitary force to quell the inevitable uprising(s) that will result from the collapse of the American economy and constitutional order.

You are being overtaken in a pincer maneuver.

DNC haven’t had more than 48 senators in 13 years, let’s put 67 of them in office and then see what needs to change from there.

The DNC platform is taxing the rich and reversing the Citizens United decision.

Oh, well if the platform says it then it must be true, lol!

There’s always a “Blue Dog”, or a “Blue Slip Rule”, or a Parliamentarian to help them steal defeat out of the jaws of victory. That’s not to mention the Rahm Emanuel’s, the “advisors” (the real representatives of the real DNC constituency: rich people), the fuckery around primaries and caucuses, etc.

It’s all deliberate. You have to be extremely naive to see the composite image that emerges and continue to believe otherwise.

Call their bluff. The other side doesn’t even pretend to support taxing the rich or ending Citizens United. If the DNC were back in total control and disenfranchised its voters you’d be closer than ever to your accelerationist goals.

I don’t desire acceleration, it’s simply what’s happening. There is a reason why the DNC remains a private and undemocratic organization.

I’m up for it, every crime should be handled by real police and real courts. Although, I do think there needs to be a way to keep tabs on people who enter this nation, to prevent espionage.

Legit question, not trying to bait or criticize: how many cases of espionage do you think DHS and ICE are actually successfully investigating and preventing? My gut feeling as a US citizen who pays a reasonable amount of attention to the news is “not many” but I honestly haven’t considered it

Are you serious right now? The Democrats are fully onboard. They supported the creation of DHS. The supported the expansion of border patrol. The supported the expansion of ice. They supported the expansion of local police. They supported the transfer of military surplus to the police.

The Democrats are not going to save you. They’re not Marvel heroes. They’re not even basic protestors. They haven’t done shit on decades.

Unless the democrats become something radically different than they are, even if they GET power again I doubt they will abolish ICE and theres almost zero percent chance they would abolish the DHS. Idk what democratic party you’re seeing but this ain’t it.

It doesnt have to be fair; just not so unfair that Democrats can’t win a whole lot more seats. That’s very possible still.

Remember here: states run elections, not the federal government. So you get different gerrymandering and different voter suppression measures in each state

The democrats are not going to hold power again.

The Controlled Opposition will be allowed to have a small majority in one of the Congressional branches, so they can be made complicit with the current regime.

          2019 was the roadmap.

Might not happen during Trump, but I think it’s no longer an extreme position. People were probably wary of making serious moves to abolish the gestapo while they had unlimited licence to kidnap and kill people.

There is basically no chance they’ll be able to amend the constitution, which is what that requires

All it requires is them doing it and no one stopping them…

Trump’s not Biden, he just does shit and sees who stops him in time. Fuck man, he tried to hang his VP last time he was supposed to leave office.

I think there’ll be elections, be I also think shit will be a lot worse than Jan 6th this time. The guard/military will be there, but who knows for which side.
