Edit to add my opinion so I’m not just replying “I agree” to 90% of comments. I think it should be legal, properly regulated, taxed and viewed as a profession. I haven’t personally engaged in it but I have no moral objection to it. I do hate the common sentiment that it was the individual’s “only option” though.

Wow, that’s a pretty pinhole, arrogant view of a complicated matter. Two consenting adults, who will likely never be within your eyesight, have a transaction behind closed doors and you have the highfalutin opinion that they are less than you. That’s an awful way to look at things.
You asked why, they told you why. Don’t get upset just because they have a different opinion…
I’m not upset, I’m telling them why their opinion should be evaluated. That’s how conversations go sometimes. Also, they didn’t really answer my question, they just reiterated that it was beneath them.
Just because they believe it’s tasteless and disgusting doesn’t mean they’re going to attack people over it. It’s fine. Probably most people don’t support prostitution, because we see that most people do not engage with sex work in any way.
We need to drop the idea that people - in this case, sex workers - get harmed unless 100% of society is repeating some mantra - e.g “sex work is real work” - to demonstrate their allegiance to x oppressed group. Sometimes people just don’t interact with that slice of society.
