An LI alternative wouldn’t be super helpful, you would need mainstream and companies to want to use it, and any open alternative would fail to meet that goal. The wants of the employee and the wants of the employer don’t mix, thats why LinkedIn looks so bad to the employee. It’s not meant to be for the employee, its meant to be for the employer. If it was the other way around the employers wouldn’t use it.
don’t take me wrong. I would love an alternative as well! I just think that the personality of the fediverse as a whole goes against what companies are actually looking for in partners
I hate LinkedIn, but having a way to keep in contact with former co-workers is good from a networking perspective for finding a new job. Someone I hadn’t talked to in 10 years reached out with a position they were hiring for, and that’s not something I would have been looking for or known about.
The useful parts of LinkedIn are managing business acquaintances, and it’d be cool if there were a decentralized privacy preserving way to be able to maintain that contact list of people, without it being used to harvest data for some data broker somewhere.
A LinkedIn alternative. LinkedIn is the worst.

Yeah I suppose that makes sense. At least Indeed does what I need.

That actually makes a lot of sense. I didn’t even think of that. Thanks for the insight!
What would the use of a LinkedIn Alternative be? Isn’t it just a circle jerk for business’

I haven’t been on LI in so long. I only used it to network and find work. I couldn’t stand the insufferable posts and talks about B2B nonsense.
So would it not be better to have communities in Lemmy for that or hashtags for Mastodon and the rest of the Fediverse for finding work / networking?
Actually, that’s a good idea. I never considered that.
