“We inherited a budget that mismanaged finances at every turn,” Mayor Mamdani told reporters at a press conference in Albany following the governor’s State of the State address.

It’s been less than a month since he left office and Addams has already launched and rug pulled a crypto coin…

But there’s no term limits for Mayor, and I don’t think Mamdani has eyes on higher office. Mayor of NYC is damn the same as being president of most countries. There’s a good chance Mamdani sinks a decade or even longer trying to fix NYC before moving on.

And honestly as well as he’d do in a statewide or national race, having an open and unapologetically socialist leader of NYC to show that progressive policy works is worth more than Mamdani in a higher office drowned out.

Pfft, like it was just Adams. Mamdani might be the first honest, competent mayor the city has had in I don’t even know how long…

Assuming he is honest and competent.

I certainly hope he is, and every indication seems to point to that being the case. But honest people rarely make it far in politics.

I don’t know why, but this time, I’m willing to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. I guess it’s just that I haven’t heard anything inconsistent out of him yet, which is already notable. Very interested to see how this all goes.

I am a few steps removed from his social circle. I’ve never met him, but a few friends of mine have. They all have said he’s a sincerely good person.

Now, that’s just a second hand story from the Internet, but for my part that’s helping me be optimistic about him.

He immediately backtracked on his Israel and police positions before he was even elected.

This move is probably one that makes me the most hopeful. Most leaders mask the shitshow they’ve inherited out of some sort of misguided effort to be polite or not drag their preticessor through the mud. Clearly articulating the mess opens the door for Mamdani to make more dramatic changes and probably more quickly (having established some urgency). I was on the fence about his actual ability to execute - but I’m excited I could be wrong.

One really has to wonder if tRump’s cronies and scammer buddies will see the possible implications for themselves here, ie: tRump may be off the hook but they will be held to account at state level.
