Marc Benioff, the Salesforce CEO and co-founder, is facing growing criticism over a joke he made about US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) monitoring international employees during an event for the company.
Employees publicly expressed outrage about Benioff’s comments in his keynote address at an internal conference in Las Vegas on Tuesday, and leaders at Slack, which Salesforce owns, have said he should apologize.
Benioff reportedly asked international employees to stand, before joking that ICE agents were present and monitoring them, drawing boos from the crowd, several employees told media outlets including Wired and 404Media. A recording of his speech published on an internal Salesforce site was edited to cut his remarks about ICE, Business Insider reported.
The incident comes as hundreds of Salesforce workers reportedly plan to urge Benioff to denounce ICE and cancel future business with the agency, Wired and CNBC reported.
after luigi wins by doing nothing, we need the rest of the super mario cast
What a psychopath.
What an insensitive privileged piece of shit.
I mean he kinda has been for more than a decade.
Seems like we need a meeting with HR first thing tomorrow morning.
Much like other billionaires, Benioff’s politics appear to have taken a marked turn in Trump’s second term. He for years was closely aligned with some liberal causes, including a 2018 measure in San Francisco to tax large corporations in the city to fund homeless services, and in an interview with the Guardian criticized billionaires for “hoarding” their wealth. Last fall Benioff told the New York Times he “fully supported” the president, and said Trump should send national guard troops to San Francisco, before apologizing and walking those comments back. His company, which has long had contracts with ICE, has sought to increase its business with the agency.
Scratch a liberal…
He was never a liberal if he shifted towards Trump, he is a populist.
Is it actually possible for a billionaire to be a leftist?

Making fun of and hurting the working class is really all they know
Having worked for Salesforce employees I really cringe when you call them the “working class”. Salesforce doesn’t employ cleaners, or people who prepare meals … Their employees are on average incredibly enriched.
You’re describing the working poor, a subset of the working class.
People who earn 200k/year are not the working poor. They are upper middle class or upper class. These things are not subjective, they are well defined.
Salesforce does not employ the working poor. They contract out to subcontractors for all their cleaning and cooking needs… Salesforce employees start at about $150k-$175k for the junior positions.
Just because they aren’t at the poverty line doesn’t mean that they aren’t working class. Unless they can live without working, they are the definition of working class.
Don’t get distracted by those who hoard wealth.
if they still have to show up to work next week and they can’t take a day off whenever they want they are still working class.
The doctor or lawyer with a sports car and a nice house isn’t your enemy, it’s the guy that is so rich he can absolve himself of humanity and community.
Even people who can take a day or five at any given time are working class, as long as they do need to work to sustain themselves. The problem is they by and large don’t realize it, and that won’t change, unless the economy gets so much worse that many people less fortunate than they will suffer a great deal (because they’re the petite bourgeoisie and they vote against their own class until it’s already fucked the rest of the working class).
Class is different from but intrinsically linked with both money and diminishing micromanagement at work. The landlord who inherited a 2-5 homes, rents all except their own out, and only actually makes $35k annually in profit is not working class. The attorney who makes $300k and gets to choose what cases they take a year is. Although at that point, I suspect there’s a lot of lifestyle trimming that could probably allow them to retire basically at any point and become members of the haute proletariat, but the likelihood that they’d accept a <$50k a year lifestyle for the rest of their lives is basically null, so that’s probably moot.
Lemmy’s definition of working class has become “must keep working or will starve within a week…”
if you have an emergency fund or any kind of retirement savings/investment, you are automatically a class traitor. The amount of purity tests you have to pass here to claim working class is crazy
Who’s gonna fund their armchair revolution if they alienate everyone who makes above minimum wage?
But warn them against alienating potential allies and they’ll call you all sorts of names, resorting ro ad hominems and strawmen, because “wE dOn’T nEeD yOuR hElP” or something.
And then they’ll call you a fascist if you present a nuanced take that doesn’t lump everyone into one of two camps: bolsheviks and fascists.
Exactly.
Exhibit A: my downvotes
Yeah, I was told that I have no idea what living paycheck to paycheck actually is like because I have a 401k.

There are more than two classes.
You’re defending Salesforce employees who are enriching the CEO and Trump, and they are working for ICE. These are not jobs they need at this company, They could literally go work for any company out there. This is not a burden placed in them by the class they belong to. Most of these people could take a year off any lose absolutely nothing but a few vacations.
People who earn upwards of $200k/year do not deserve my forgiveness it my empathy, especially when they are willingly working for people like the CEO of Salesforce.
Framing them as working class is absurd. Just because you have a job doesn’t mean you are working class.
You know what the difference is between a million dollars and a billion dollars?
A billion dollars.
Those who make $200k have more in common with people in poverty than people who are billionaires.
I make good money but I am not under any illusion that a bad accident or a medical issue will wipe out my savings in a heartbeat. Just because I can afford to go on vacation doesn’t mean that I don’t understand what it means to be “working class”.
I am working class and their ally. All you’re doing is intentionally creating a wedge between “well off” people and the poor instead of coalescing together to attack the actual capital class.
You don’t understand who is not your ally. The people enriching the oligarch class are also not our allies.
For them it’s a choice, not a need. There is a very very large experience and knowledge gap between our perspectives and I’m not going to spend my time bridging backwards while you try to frame Salesforce managers as being trapped in their labor class.
The people enriching the oligarch class are also not our allies.
Meaning everyone who’s ever bought anything from a corporation?
No. The people who willingly serve them. You are being like this on purpose. Go back to reddit.

Such a piece of garbage. Nice way to treat your “Ohana”, Marc.
Wait when did salesforce buy slack?
Several years back. The best thing about Salesforce’s AI push is that it has distracted them from constantly push Slack on us.
Ohana, but safe harbours.
