I watched The Wire for the first time a few months ago. My wife couldn’t get past the first couple episodes since it’s a little dated, but I am glad I stuck with it because that show was freaking phenomenal.
I really wish I could have enjoyed it too. I watched it about 7 years ago maybe, and I don’t know if it had just been built up too much (greatest show evarr!!) or if it just wasn’t my jam, but I didn’t enjoy it. Did watch the whole damn thing, though. Just meh. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
It’s almost a period piece now, a time capsule of the early 00s. I never could understand the “it’s dated” argument, did she watch Chernobyl or Bridgerton or Gladiator?
Yeah that’s probably a good way to think of it. She did love Chernobyl - but that might be because it was a modern retelling of a historical event. Same way that people love Stranger Things for the nostalgia, but aren’t exactly going back and rewatching shows filmed in the 80s.
