No way! That’s so crazy. I had no idea. I tend to block out those memories, so damn. I’ve not heard the pledge outside a classroom. I don’t often partake in public meetings either, though.
It’s absolutely surreal, ours also does a prayer and a thing for the troops on top of everything else. even our school committee meetings start with a pledge. this is in a blue state lol
I would classify a municipal public meeting as a public event. In my municipality they do a pledge at school committee and council meetings; all of those are public.
Something tells me we’ll soon have a lot of disabled Epstein War veterans to thank for their service.
I’m never thinking a service member again.
Thanking service members has always been fucking weird from a non-American point of view
Sitting through the pledge of allegiance at public events is like my favorite recreational activity
Did you mean the national anthem? They only indoctrinate the children with the pledge.
I have told my kids not to participate in that jingoist ritual. Fortunately they seem to have stopped in our school district.
The pledge is still said at many local governmental functions in the US. Both my city and county councils do it before each public meeting.
Have you ever been a municipal public meeting? it’s like you’re back in high school

well it beats the lords prayer, thats what they say in red states. (thats a joke… I think)
Nope, they’re still in elementary school and are asked daily to say it
That why most of lemmy.ml is the way they are
You have clearly never been to a municipal public meeting, lol
Is it a municipal public meeting or a public event?
