Stuck at the next boss in Darksiders 3. It’s a very gimmiky boss. First half is simple-ish, though not actually easy, but when you get the boss’ health to half, it moves into phase two, which is under water fight. The gimmick is to swim and bring the homing bombs / mines to the boss, but only when it is sucking in the water, which happens after a specific series of attack, and meanwhile you have to make sure the bombs don’t hit you. Having trouble here, took me quite a while to clear the first phase, and can’t get the proper hang of second phase.
All the skills I have learned in the game, and the “git gud” (gitten gud?) I have done doesn’t matter cause of this gimmicky fight, which is annoying. If I drop this game, this is probably where I’ll do it.
Reached Arabaia in Xuan Yuan Sword: Mists Beyond the Mountains. Doing the dungeon right now. Should be halfway through the area.
Tom Clancy’s The Division: Did all the missions till level 16, time to do some side missions to level up before doing the next missions. I would love a single-player, non-ubisoft-design game in the world of Division. The world building, the visuals, the gameplay (other than spongy enemies) and even the UI, all are pretty good. Just not a big fan of the live service style of game.
Doing the last chapter of Campaign in Hard West. Still have the prequel chapter, and 4 side chapters left though. Prioritizing this now, as I want to start Pokopia after I am done with it. It will probably still take a week or so.
What about all of you? What have you been playing and/or plan to play?
Pokopia! Such a refreshing game in the Pokémon universe!
Playing Slay the Spire 2 and having a great time ! The coop mode is a nice addition
Like everyone else, slay the spire 2, but also still Kerbal Space Program with the RealismOverhaul mod and RP1 career mode. I’m learning so much about rocketry and space and history, it’s amazing.
On my way back from GameStop. I went to pick up Pokotopia, but I didn’t realize it was a game-key-card only. My system is still full from the digital edition of FFVII Remake, so I guess I’ll work toward finishing that.
I’m looking forward to wrapping up Little Rocket Lab this week. I’m in my county’s Spring Break, so I’m off school while my kids are still in. Let’s hope I ca recharge enough for the sprint to standardized testing season.
Since you asked for a follow-up, I’ve played a bit of Pokopia.
It’s cute, and it’s a lot more Minecrafty than I expected. You build little habitats for Pokemon like a few bunches of tall grass or tall grass under a tree or whatever, and things will move in to live there. Everyone has a basic personality, and it’s all super friendly. There’s no pressure, you can half-ass everything without consequence, but you advance by making your community happy by providing them with what they ask for. I’ve done the first 2 maps so far (they’re all based on towns from the Kanto region). The last thing I did was get to a map that basically has no real story and lets you build however you want, and the game said I can move my Pokemon from other maps there so I’m going to build a little community for my favourites.
As for negatives, building is quite tedious, you can place blocks in 3D space around you based on where the camera is looking so you kind of have to swing it around madly to get things where you want them, and building in a cramped area is rough. Destroying blocks takes a few punches but you punch in a little AoE attack, so you have to line things up very precisely with the same annoying system when you only want to hit a specific block. You can make pre-made building kits that require the help of a bunch of mons with different skills. This is great, but anything past the most basic couple of huts takes ages and it’s in real time (as in “Come back tomorrow and we should have this done”). Thankfully you can just change the console settings to time travel without consequence, because fuck that.
Anyway, it’s a nice cosy, low-pressure game with a surprisingly grim story. You wake up in the post-apocalypse and everyone’s gone, so you have to try to make the areas nicer to attract more Pokemon back, while rebuilding towns in the hope that humans will come back too. As you explore you find pre-whatever logs, & some post-whatever journal entries that seem to be suggesting the world became uninhabitable due to climate change so everyone “went away.” A lot of the friends you make are so sad that their trainer is gone and can’t wait to find them again, and I don’t know how this is going to end but well… I think you should get comfortable without them, guys.

Other than that last week I mentioned Digimon Story Time Stranger, I played the demo but didn’t really like it. Then there was Monster Hunter World, which I mentioned was one my favourite games but my gf isn’t really enjoying it so my dreams of playing that together with her have been crushed. On the bright side the demo of Monster Hunter Stories 3 is fantastic, I never finished the 2nd game because while I liked the game I started to really hate the teammates’ AI and couldn’t force myself through it, but the upcoming game fixes a lot of issues and it so fun to play. I just dropped $330AUD on Pokopia this week (one for me, my for my gf and one for my sister’s birthday present), so I’m not sure about dropping another $108 on this, but it’s extremely tempting.
Thank you for the in-depth comments on Pokotopia. The more I read, the more it sounds like Dragon Quest Builders without the fighting. I can’t wait until I relax a little about not having a physical card so I can buy it for my wife (and me, honestly).
With all this, will you recommend Pokopia to someone looking for a cozy farm sim? And is it worth $330 for you? (Also, I heard there’s a very sacred ancient tradition that if you buy multiple copies of a game, you should buy an extra copy and gift it to your lemmy community admin… just sharing for reference…)
Hehe, I can understand the crushed dream parts, my wife isn’t much of a gamer so I have experienced that a few times.
Yeah if you’re into Pokémon and want a simple little game (or big game because apparently it’s huge) I’d rec this. It’s worth it, the others are having fun too and you can’t put a price on your loved ones’ enjoyment. This is the first I’ve heard of that tradition and I’m not entirely convinced it’s a real one, but check your DMs.
I’ll be starting Resident Evil Village
I picked up the Generation Pack with the launch of Requiem. I just finished 7 which I really enjoyed. A couple of the boss encounters are a little fiddly, but other than that, I thought it was excellent.
I loved 7, 2 Remake and 3 Remake, then pretty much find most of the rest of them dull & tedious to an unplayable level. I wasn’t paying much attention to Requiem, but I’ve been watching a mate play it and it looks really good. I think if you liked 7 it’ll be right up your alley. As for Village, it wasn’t for me (there’s one section I thought was great, the rest was eh) but most people I’ve spoken to who are into the newer ones rate it highly, so I hope you like it.
What about 4 Remake? From what I have heard that’s the fan favourite.
I’m an outlier there. I like slow, atmospheric survival horror punctuated with small segments of high pressure action. 4 is a full game of all of the worst parts of the series, I hate it.
Ah, makes sense. I am the opposite, don’t like horror, which is why I liked RE 5 more (never played 6 or any after that). Thinking about trying the remakes, let’s see how it goes.
Up until playing 7, I hadn’t played any Resident Evil since Revelations on 3DS and then the original release of 4 on Gamecube, so it had been a really long time. Which is probably a good thing since I didn’t have any fresh comparisons going into playing these 3.
Sekiro and Slay the Spire 2
I’ve mostly been playing Visions of Mana. It’s rather average so far, carried mostly by my nostalgia for the series. I hope the gameplay gets a little more depth, I’ve been hoping for more after the banger that was the Trials of Mana remake. But I still find it enjoyable enough.
After some delays, I beat Arch-Tepmered Arkveld in Monster Hunter Wilds. I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned this, but I go into all of these battles all by myself for the first hunt and only bring Support Hunters for the grind afterwards. My time in Monster Hunter Tri almost 20 years ago ended poorly with the final boss, Alatreon, only being available in the multiplayer environment. It didn’t really give me any chance to learn, so I was always the reason the hunt failed. That is why I fight everything solo first now, because you can really only learn the attack patterns when the monster is actually targeting you. It’s basically 50% honor and 50% trauma.
I got used to Fallout 3 it’s now in gamplay loop mode. Exploring, doing quests, bombing an ant into the geometry to stretch it into a twitchy eldritch abomination… everything you’d expect, except the main quest. Too much to do!
From what I recall hearing about Visions of Mana was that it’s a good game, but not a great game. Though haven’t played it myself yet.
Wow, congratulations on beating Arch-Tempered Arkveld! I also play solo, though my reasoning is that I am not a good player, and don’t like dragging down my team, also don’t like being carried, you don’t get to enjoy the game properly. So, solo works well. At least as far as I can go 😀
You are making me miss Fallout! Don’t do that. I have too many other games to play!
Finally picked up Two Point Museum when it was on sale last week
Ooh, nice! That’s a really good series.
I played Two Point Hospital, back when I had the PS+ Extra, and loved the game. Planning to play the rest of the series now.
Playing Trails Beyond the Horizon!
Finished Rean Route 3 and Kevin Route 3, and now going through Van Route 6. Looks like these are the last parts of their individual routes and after that we go for the final chapter.
I’m quite disappointed by how short Kevin’s route was. I was hyped to have him as a playable character again after all these years, but he has the shortest route by far (his last chapter is just two short maps and a two boss battles, doesn’t even have a second city to explore like Rean’s), and he struggles with the weakest of the three teams as well (Swin really needs a buff).
At least his story beats were good. He and the Picnicking Front have a good dynamic, and it also includes some major reveals that I’ll discuss in a spoiler section after I finish the game. Though I’m curious where they’re going with his character building, he seems to have somewhat “regressed” to how he was before Sky 3 - and even his party members are constantly calling him out on that.
Rean’s route was also on the short side, but that didn’t bother me as much since we had so many games to play with him already. It was damn good though, with some long-awaited encounters and also interesting reveals related to what we saw in Kevin’s route.
I’ll leave my final comments on Van’s route for after I finish the game, but so far it’s the weakest of the three, it feels too much like “filler” - despite being longer than the other two combined it don’t contain as many interesting story moments.
With this current pace I’ll probably finish the game this weekend, which is faster than I expected. If that happens I’ll go back to Super Robot Wars Y to play DLC2.
Fully focused on Horizon so no progress on other games.
I haven’t had much time to play recently. But since last time I posted, I finished River City Saga: Three Kingdoms. I got the sequel, “Next”, but I’m saving it to play later.
I played and finished Earthworm Jim 2 on Nintendo Online SNES. This game has amazing style, graphics and silly funny stuff. But the game play is sometimes not great and it becomes pretty hard. I wouldn’t had had the patience to finish it without the rewind and save states on Nintendo Online I think. The puppy stages are particularly hard and devastating when you miss a puppy.
I am also playing a little bit of Parodius Da! almost every day on my Famicom. I’m trying to finish a run without losing any lives and going through all the secret bonus stages.
Finally I also played some Tetris and Wario on the Virtual Boy. It’s fun and the games are good, but I just find it hard to find a comfortable position with the Virtual Boy for longer than a few minutes at a time. No wonder it was hard to sell back then. Where’s my strap!? I want the VB stuck to my face! 🤣
I played Earthworm Jim a little bit when I was a kid and liked the characters, but don’t remember the gameplay much. I don’t think I ever finished it.
Heh, Virtual Boy looks uncomfortable. Main question is, who thought it will be comfortable to use. 😀
