I’m gonna go out on a limb and say there’s literally hundreds of way more important issues that need to be addressed in the US than the waste of printing pennies. Like, it’s such a drop in the bucket compared to underfunded healthcare, rampant homelessness, mental health crises, broken education system, rising pollution, bomb trains, aging and failing infrastructure, bridges about to collapse, water treatment plants failing, a patchwork power grid that was built for the 19th century, dams about to collapse, resurgence of major diseases due to anti-vaccine hysteria, intense levels of propaganda via unregulated social media…
Anyway, I could keep going, so seriously, you’re joking right? The waste produced from pennies is literally a drop of water in an ocean of fucking problems that are way more massive , way more impactful, and overall just way more important. If stopping minting pennies meant we could fund Medicare For All for the next fifty years I might give a shit, but it didn’t and even with a better congress, supreme court, and President it still wouldn’t have saved enough money to fund anything significant.
So I genuinely don’t give one flying fuck about stopping minting pennies or if they had kept minting them. It makes no material difference in my daily fucking life whereas ICE being the world’s third most well funded military means jackbooted fucking thugs are roaming my streets looking to black bag my neighbors. I just can’t, the idea that the penny thing can be counted as “a good thing” in the face of the tsunami of bad shit is a joke.
Well said, all of this, even if it was a joke. Way too many reactionary centrists in my life try to pull the “but what about the dyes in food, tho?” and a few have noted the penny thing was something worthwhile, even though he screwed the pooch on rolling that out, if you can even call it a rollout.
Because they literally have nothing else, I guess? Even the reactionary centrists seem to realize that kidnapping people and giving them the extreme rendition treatment is a bad look.
On the dye thing - first of all, it was easy and free for me to avoid dyes if I so wished. Secondly, I have not seen anything actually happen on that front. And seriously, even if that was something I was wishing on a star to have happen, the tradeoff is…what? Threatening every single one of our allies, attacking Venezuela, Iran and attacking our own cities? Ripping way healthcare from millions? Firing untold numbers of government workers? Even more handouts to the already ridiculously rich?

But he even half-assed that. He stopped the production of new pennies but they’re still in use and not being destroyed. In Canada, we made a law that, starting on a certain date, prices were rounded to the nearest five for cash transactions. Pennies were still accepted currency but gradually sent back to the mint to be destroyed and, after a while, they stopped being used at all.
Yep, even the most basic of things that should be a slam dunk are things he completely bungles.
He should have easily been able to unify the nation in dealing with a pandemic. But, nope. He so totally fucked that up. And same with the penny thing - we have plenty of examples, like Canada, where we could have learned about the rollout.
Instead, it’s announced via his LieSocial site or whatever the fuck. With no phase out and no plan and no direction given.

Watching him first steer into the “but muh economy!” thing nearly at the outset, to initially being hopeful it was going to kill off more black people than white people, to having Jared withhold life-saving supplies and equipment from entire states not deemed loyal enough to Donvict, to stoking stupid conspiracy theories and nostrums like horse dewormer, while also wanting all the credit for the vaccine (which we really had Obama to thank), and so on…
Again, almost any normal human being without a broken brain and who had the barest modicum of empathy, or the ability to at least fake that empathy, could have done better at it.

You know they will retaliate. You know they can’t directly invade us. That leaves tactics like suicide bombers, hijacking planes, internal sabotage of utilities. I wouldn’t go anywhere populated anytime in the near future.
That’s just fear mongering. Iran is already retaliating in the scope that they can. They are attacking US bases near them.
Iran doesn’t want anything in the US just like Iraq didn’t want anything in the US. I’ve seen this fear mongering song and dance before.
