Around 85% of my investments are tied to the US stock markets and they’re doing just fine despite a global pandemic and multiple wars. I don’t quite get what this pessimism is based on. S&P 500 was hitting all time highs a month ago.

Compared to the value of the dollar? If the dollar loses and your 401k gains, how do you even know how much you’ve made?

I’m a pleb and I’m doing just fine. I know it’s not the case for everyone but one shouldn’t generalize either.

I don’t see your point. On average people are doing worse. Is your point that populations aren’t a monolith? Cause I thought we all knew that (with exceptions obviously).

the s&p is specifically being propped up by overvalued companies. there’s a lot of money being thrown at the market and not a lot of material to show for it.

Sorry for your downvotes! I follow a lot of FIRE (Financial Independence Retirement Early). All blogs and else have still continued to recommend the 3 fund portfolio. Which includes US stocks…

Admittedly, idk if there’s been a national shake up before in history but all financial peeps advising to stay the course… Historically, despite everything in past, its been solid.

It’s all an illusion the growth is fake, all of GDP growth in US past couple of years was from LLM slop companies, not actual productivity.

Besides that there’s some other very dubious math that goes into stocks that make it a joke. It used to be real but these days it’s more gambling
