Trump has put pressure on Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, a measure that would require photo identification and proof of U.S. citizenship to vote.
Those should be used instead of USPS anyway, and it would ultimately make it so states could just switch to those and not care about the postal service. While it is more convenient to mail it and would absolutely affect turnout in some way, it’s not much more difficult to go a few blocks (or stop while going to the grocery store) and drop off your ballot. It would remove the power of this illegal order since it’s centered around the USPS not delivering ballots to election facility.
This was attempted in Portland during the last major election, and while a handful of votes were invalidated, because they were picked up so frequently there wasn’t many. Also the dumbasses that did it didn’t wait for the election to be almost complete, which allowed for those with affected ballots to revote.
It also made them improve drop box security this time around, so it’s not as easy to tamper with the votes inside now.
Remember, the alternative here would be allowing the feds to systematically throw away massive amounts of votes in blue cities via USPS. Ballot dropboxes are way more secure than dealing with the USPS where your ballot is treated like normal mail at best, and something to discard at worst.
Yes typically at businesses like grocery stores or county facilities.
We have them at libraries where I live.

How are they protected? I imagine a truck running in to it or a bit of chemicals would invalidate the votes. Only in blue districts of course.
