Thanks for the answer! That’s pretty cool honestly. Could you achieve the same result with anything that spins, like a lettuce spinner?
It always makes me chuckle a bit how internet censorship (at least in western countries and on a personal level (school and work networks excluded)) is almost always just done through DNS. I mean I’m sure not going to be the one to tell them how laughably ineffective that is, but it’s just funny.
How does that work?
Recently I’ve been falling asleep to ThioJoe. They do occasionally have minor sound effects, but I can ignore those. He maintains a consistent tone throughout
I go to sleep wearing noise cancelling headphones and playing YouTube videos from a handful of creators with nice monotone voices that I’ve seen before. If I don’t, then my mind gets too preoccupied with thinking about things that aren’t important, and on top of that every single little noise gives me an adrenaline rush and I feel the need to get out of bed and go investigate
Not to be dismissive, but if you deconstruct every website like this, won’t they all look horrible? I mean how long would Google’s list be if you detailed every single controversy and dodgy thing they’ve done in/to/from their search engine?
Btw you double posted this
Thanks!
Heya, sorry for the necropost, but would you mind sharing how you’re doing on storage these days? I’m looking at spinning up a Lemmy instance of my own and I’m curious about the storage aspect on small instances
Np. I mainly reuploaded it since discord introduced that thing where attachment links expire after a few days and stop working
Embedded (and non Discord) link:
I’m always worried about inadvertently doing this, so I’ve been trying to make a conscious effort to ask people if they need more context rather than assuming they do or don’t. It’s actually a good approach I think. Although it does depend on whether the person you’re talking to is likely to just say “oh yeah, I know what that is” when they really don’t
I guess the mods didn’t find this very funny, since they nuked it. Disappointing, because I was able to read it through the magic of caching and it made me crack up laughing
Why’s it a static gif
They do in certain cases. If you sign up through a VPN or Tor, they require you to provide a recovery email. They don’t accept temporary email addresses, and even if you don’t sign up work a VPN, they’ll still collect and be obligated to hand over your IP
Solutions always seem to come to me in that weird phase of thought between almost asleep and actually asleep
many engineers do not know how to effectively communicate with management when something will result in terribly written software and just do it anyway.
I imagine this is partly a result of bad and misinformed managers too though. There’s a lot out there who have 0 clue wtf you do, just that you make computer do thing yet still act like they know your job better than you
Not a programmer, but I see this all the time in other fields. And all it takes is someone in upper management only being focused on time or costs, or someone in middle management acting like they know better than everyone else.
No, a lettuce spinner is a little basket inside of a container with a handle that you can spin to turn the basket. You wash your lettuce and put it into the basket and turn the handle. The centrifugal force (I think) causes the water clinging to the outside of the lettuce to drain into the container.
I think if you filled the container and basket partially up with ice or crushed ice) and some water, it’d achieve the same result as the machine someone linked above
