  • I just bookmark the piracy megathread/wiki thingy, lemmy/reddit (backup). For streaming, I would probably recommend hydra, it’s really all the same but that site has “auto-next” which I prefer. There was one site I used to enjoy that was just better than any streaming platform I’ve paid for, skip intro, skip credits (would even detect after credit scenes), subtitles in all languages and audio tracks even commentary, quick responsive high quality loading of any media your mind can remember. They went after it hard and I haven’t seen a proper iteration since (every clone slowly lost features as they were whack-a-moling).

For downloading, they’re really all crappy (several link hoops to jump through) and hit or miss (for quality and selection you can’t beat the ease of a torrent unfortunately). You can find what you want eventually but the difference in hassle is just crazy.

  • You ok there bud? First day on the internet and you just needed to talk to someone?

This is a perfect example btw, I didn’t just dismiss you because of your confusion. But now since you’ve just been wasting time for clarification you never actually cared about (only to then try to insult in the lamest way possible online), and your other really horrible posts and comments I can easily move on and not care about this interaction at all!

  • I think this is simplifying and twisting narratives. Republicans didn’t plan for Trump, but the evangelicals and extremists rolled with it (just like progressives and antifa would’ve rolled with someone like Bernie). Besides an authoritarian take over of elections, the republicans don’t seem to be putting anyone electable up on a podium lately.

I doubt any of us are privy to what the Democrats plan and play long term, if anything they’ve been more effective at controlling their party if we’re looking at them through the lens of being moderates. If you think they’re “failing”… it’s in the eyes of a citizen and not what their donor’s interests are which is the priority of the party.

I am interested to learn about how the rest of the world is handling the “news” issue though, I see a lot of media coming from other countries (like UK and Australia) which follow the same format of fox so figured we were all fucked when it comes to actually vetting what can be labeled as a news source.

  • It helps if you’re not vague when asking for clarification and quote what the issue is directly, the made-up quote doesn’t really help if you wish to get an actual helpful response.

people should be friends with people who litter, and politely encourage them to improve their behavior?

My response: Make friends first without requirements

Or that they should walk away from people that litter?

response: Learn who they are and why they do things before passing judgement. From there, evaluate what kind of relationship you want with the person going forward (is this a co-worker? Someone from a friend group? What kind of relationship is required to move forward)

You can make friends…then unmake if necessary. If that’s your confusion.

  • Make friends first without requirements, communicate if an action of theirs disturbs you or makes you feel some kind of way. Learn who they are and why they do things before passing judgement. Let them know your experience. From there, evaluate what kind of relationship you want with the person going forward. But, communicate! the reason why. Allow the ability for people to surprise you and change if they care about your feelings (including allowing yourself to change if they present good arguments).

People have friends or acquaintances for different reasons and have different philosophies over what’s important in those relationships, mileage may vary.

Just wanted to put in a counter for what a lot of people are saying in here, if you’re looking for a “perfect-clone friend” right out the gate then prepare to be lonely as your tests fail… not because they’re horrible people, but because they’re a different person with different experiences.

The person litters (like @tiramichu@sh.itjust.works suggested)? Probably see’s their entire family litter constantly and never gets comments or maybe even once got reprimanded for saying not to litter to an elder. Just ask them not to when they’re in your vehicle, take into account their reaction and maybe have a conversation about it? (personal experience, just let me friend know it was lame and he stopped doing it. But now his vehicle is a roaming trashcan so I guess take what you can get)

You can be friends with people who are different or were raised differently than you, it’s actually super beneficial! Now if it’s a constant argument or it’s turned into a negative experience every time and communication isn’t working… it might be useful to move on for everyone’s sake at that point.

  • I do the clean up thing just because I don’t like having a bunch of shit in front of me all spread out. I think it’s years of having to clean up my stations and desks so I can actually function so it’s just habitual. We should be taking into consideration that this might not be helpful at all to the worker if these other comments are to be believed.

  • I’ve been kicking around the same idea of a “community land trust and housing coop” for the better part of a decade now. It’s on my short list of things I want to accomplish with my life that might be beneficial for society. Mixed housing community (large plots, multifamily dwellings, apartments, townhouses), support for cooperative company creation within the community, local store that sells the goods produced by the community (and online), plus actual facilities a community needs to thrive (community education auto/tech/farming/maintenance, help with transportation, etc).

I strongly feel like Cooperative based communities is the only way to gently guide us into a better future. It can compete within the commercialized world while still maintaining growth and development because the profits are being directly funded into the community as a whole. I think one imperative action that needs taken within the coop is the establishment and expansion into other communities so you create a network of these villages that can help sustain each other in harder times. Could even get already established coop’s like land-o-lakes or create other mass industry leaders so you’re not stuck with small ma and pa stores that can’t compete in this style of market we find ourselves in.

  • Just so you know, you’re getting downvoted because what you’re saying is wrong and actually contributes to the problem.

Mental Illness and Violence Among People Experiencing Homelessness: An Evidence-Based Review

Please read the full study and it’s sources. It’s so important and negates a large portion of misinformation you’re going to hear. I’ll highlight some points in case some people don’t want to.

The US media is saturated with coverage of perceived threats to public safety by people experiencing homelessness (PEH) with purported “mental illness.” … a content analysis of 6,400 tweets regarding PEH collected over three months showed widespread generalizations that PEH posed a high risk of violence and that homelessness was caused by untreated mental illness.3

About 30% of PEH have a mental health condition.73 The framing of these narratives have been identified as further entrenching the dehumanization of PEH, contributing to oversimplified understandings of PEH and mental illness, and motivating policy interventions that are not evidence-based.4 Physicians’ lack of specific training in working with PEH can create additional barriers to accessing care,5 especially since PEH may perceive negative attitudes in their physicians,6 exacerbating feelings of alienation.7 Stigma is pervasive,8 and that experience is often compounded by PEH’s past negative experiences with medical care and ongoing structural barriers to engagement

There’s many more passages that are relevant and have way too much info for me to copy/paste here, like:

    • Mental Illness and Addiction Can Be One of Many Precipitants of Homelessness and Should Not Be Seen as the Underlying Cause
    • Homelessness and Mental Illness Are Not Driving Surges in Violent Crime
    • Permanent Supportive Housing is Cost-Effective and Associated with Better Outcomes for PEH
    • Putting People Away Without Essential Care and Basic Needs
    • Learning “From the Misses” Does Not Breed Compassion

Again, you’re going to be reading, watching, and discussing homelessness in media for the rest of your life. It’s only going to take you 20 minutes to get real facts about the debates and form an evidence based opinion on the matter. Or just disregard and continue watching/reading misinformation to form your thoughts for you.
