The average Winblows user doesn’t even know how to lock the screen without using their mouse or touchpad. Don’t give me that “It’s hard for people” bullshit. Most people can barely handle recognizing icons, which are the same regardless of OS.

I was quoting them but you’re right-or Fdroid ofc
Thanks. Remember to always question everything. Especially when that -something- sounds like BS.
Interesting, especially with GrapheneOS people shooting it down immediately to call them out on their baloney.
Was curious so Iooked up the app’s site.
Apparently the devs claim they can’t release it on Android because “There’s no way to be anonymous on the play store”, but it’s even more impossible to be anonymous on the platform they’ve released. That’s how you know the developer is incredibly stupid and/or shady as hell- because they’ve never even heard of Fdroid?
Makes me think the app is a troll/trojan horse (not as in infection, trojan horse as in it has alterior motives)
The Drumpf crew “losing it” over the app just makes it more questionable. They love to create a firestorm so people talk about the thing “they definitely don’t want you to use!!” to get people to do things…

I’m not really sure it’s a “news flash” that these people aren’t particularly “sharp”.
Hello. I am a Linux Penguin. Please do not associate me with the evil Penguins. Thank you.
Then I suppose it’s a good thing they’re limiting non-premium users from using the “high bitrate” quality options?
^ that was sarcasm. HARSH sarcasm. With both middle fingers pointing toward a Google logo and spitting.
I always wondered how to spell that.
Got the prompt earlier this week. Haven’t seen any noticeable increase in its DNS requests, but it’s not impossible that the hostnames it’s reaching out to just aren’t in my MANY block lists.
271 blocks today and all the same old- analytics.plex.tv.
Please do.
Good to know. When I get this prompt at home I’ll be watching my Pihole server quite closely for a while to see for sure.
I don’t disagree at all, but morally and legally speaking if “no” means “no”, I don’t actually see anything wrong with the prompt or the idea itself. If no means “later” or “limit this data”, or even “anonymize this data”, it’s time to revolt.
I agree Jellyfin’s pretty rad and DOES prove what can be done for free, I’ve used both and Plex is a much more “set and forget” and I personally have had more issues with streams breaking/stopping for no reason with Jellyfin- are those probably my fault? Yep, probably borked a setting or misconfigured it- just saying that’s my personal experience.
I’m just one idiot making noises with my meat flaps. I’m no authority.
If we find out “I do not consent” opts out, I’m fine with it. If we find out “I do not consent” leads to a “Close our account” page, it’s time for pitchforks, especially since they recently had a huge sale on lifetime memberships.
Desktop support huh? Look around your town for little tiny MSPs. There are 3 or so in my little city (I work at one of them) and I’ve been begging them to hire a tier 1 tech for years. We’re busier than HELL. They insist we “can’t afford one” but we’ll be able to afford 3 as soon as one of the “partners” finally retires soon.
If you’re ok doing remote-tool desktop support and know what you’re doing, I have no doubt you’re worth $20/hr.
Even if there’s no listing or “We’re hiring” sign in the window, I say take a chance and walk in to ask.
In the mean time, have you considered putting an ad on craigslist/etc?
Best of luck to you fellow geek.
Worst fucking possible timeline.
