I guess this is essentially a philosophical question. Kind of like “would you defend your country?”

You can say you would but how could you ever really know unless the situation actually arises? Perhaps it’s just my ego trying to convince I’m notably different from others.

Keeping large amounts of cash in the bank is not a very smart financial move. Due to inflation, you’re effectively losing money. You should have enough cash to get you through a crisis without needing to touch your investments, but the rest should be put into low-cost index funds, for example. I “earn” more from interest each year than the vast majority of people can save from their wages. In my opinion, working-class people can’t afford to miss out on the phenomenon of compounding interest. That should be taught in schools. Other than owning a house, it’s basically the only other way to generate any significant amount of wealth for average person.

The way I think about it is that being “rich” means having a lot of money in the bank, whereas being “wealthy” means having enough investments to live off passive income indefinitely. Rich people can still live effectively from paycheck to paycheck, while a wealthy person’s wealth is tied up in assets. This means they can’t necessarily splurge a ton of cash on a yacht or similar luxuries, but they can live comfortably off the interest without having to work. Billionaires, on the other hand, are a whole different animal because they can afford to do both and much more.

I’m self-employed contractor. I make enough to buy whatever I want, and I have plenty of savings. However, I often find that my anxieties boil down to finances. Even though things are good now, I’m always worried something bad might happen in the future. With enough money to retire, I wouldn’t need to worry about that anymore and could move on to worrying about other things, like my health and such.

It’s not going to be the end of the world, and it’s not even going to be the end of the US. The next four years will likely unfold similarly to the previous four under Trump. Then there will be two new candidates: the Democratic one will be seen as equally incompetent as Biden, and the Republican candidate will be considered a Trump 2. We’ll be having this same discussion again, and again, and again…

I feel the same way about all the generic instagram influencer accounts with hundreds of thousands of followers. Selfies, holiday pictures, photos of food/jewellery/clothing/accessories etc. You could basically merge all these accounts into one as the content is the same. I genuinely don’t understand why they got so many followers and what the reasoning is behind the decision to follow such accounts.

Wouldn’t be too difficult to jerryrig a system which does that but because it’s going to be a huge waste of water I feel morally obligated to not even give you any ideas. Invest in a split AC system instead. They make ones for windows as well.

There are certain topics that are guranteed to have 80% of the commenters blocked when I open the thread. Then when I log out to read said comments I’m faced with the reason for why they’re blocked.

The people voting for democrats are going to vote for whoever is on the ballot. Same applies for the die-hard republicans. It’s the independents who decide the vote and many of them are now considering Trump. I’d argue that to whoever Trump isn’t the obvious first choice pretty much anyone else but Biden would be a more compelling candidate. They know what they’re going to get with both Trump and Biden. How much worse could they realistically be if we just pick a random dude from the street and nominate them instead?

What’s the diagnosis for?

Most Finns speak english pretty well, especially ones that are under 40 years old. However finding a job as someone not speaking Finnish can be a struggle. Fluent english skills alone aren’t something most companies would see as a big advantage as most people fresh out of school can pretty much do that as well. Finnish is a difficult language to learn but you don’t need to be perfect at it either. A foreigner willing to even try and learn the language is hugely appreciated. My russian neighbour knows like 30 words but that’s enough to get thru most conversations one needs to have with a neighbour.
