For me personally? Most likely worse, so far 2024 has been good with unusually few issues. I expect 2025 to regress to the mean amount of misfortune.

I try not to go down that rabbit hole. 9/11 possibly doesn’t happen and that changes everything.

Or even better, Carter wins a second term in 1980, no trickle down economics. Corporations are kept under control. Taxes on ultra wealthy stay in place…

When I was a kid, and a teen, I was optimistic. I always felt that things could only get better. Why? Because as humans we all work towards things getting better. So they would. Because how could they not??? Billions of people all working together in unity, for a better tomorrow. What could go wrong???

I did not take one key piece of information into account. The fact that people are ASSHOLES!!!

I was imagining a world where internet speeds get faster and faster. And with new advancements would come new technologies. I imagined a world where you could prick yourself the same way diabetes patients do, dip a strip into your blood, and it would use the internet to tell you all your health issues instantly, and for cheap.

I imagined a world where cars were solar powered, and came with butt massagers.

I imagined a world where nobody smoked cigerettes. Which would lead to a massive decrease in cancer.

I imagined a world where teleportation were possible. Transport yourself from NYC to Sydney in 3 seconds.

I imagined all these crazy things that might be possible if all the top minds were all working like a collective hive to solve the pressing issues.

But I forgot people were assholes. Everything is political. People would rather a good idea didn’t happen if they couldn’t take credit for it…even if they had nothing to do with it.

People would rather large populations starve, and suffer from preventitive diseases if they can’t profit from the solutions.

People would rather willingly go forward with known bad ideas if it meant their enemies suffer with them through the bad times too.

So adult me knows that NO. The future is not bright. It’s not a fear of the unknown. It’s an educated guess of the obvious. The world is shit. It’s always been shit. It’s always going to be shit.

    Adult me is sad.

The result of the US elections are the tipping point either way for the whole world, and every country is awaiting what will happen.

One side drops the world in misery, from the full destruction of Ukraine and it’s people, to an intense war in the EU and the Koreas.Taiwan as a country will cease to exist, as will its chip production. Not to mention the deep scarring that will take place within the US itself where it will see the Constitution torn up. America First, but as a consequence it loses power and status everywhere else for years to come.

The other possibility is that starting in 2025 the current big worldwide conflicts will be resolved semi peacefully, a slow growth to more financial prosperity and equality sets in plus a number of billionaires will need to pay some of their taxes, but international treaties and trades will be reinforced.

I am really hoping for the latter, because if the outcome is the first, we’ll see a least a decade of chaos and economic downfall everywhere.

So, my choice is made, it will be better in 2025 <crosses fingers>

Im somewhat of a doomer and I see a steady overall decline. so for me its a choice of a lot worse or a little worse which is also a no brainer for me because I prefer slightly bad to real bad but Im wierd like that.

It depends, and there’s no middle ground ….

    • I have a great job but we might go public in 2025. So cue the layoffs
    • National Politics will have more impact on our lives than ever: will it be fascism trying to break give or will it be a democracy trying to improve our lives?
    • My youngest is graduating high school in 2025: lots of pride but an empty lonely home and huge tuition bills coming my way

Most layoffs when companies go public are usually to support staff. They don’t want to do anything that can affect revenue for the first few years.

Yes, the downside of DevOps/DevSecOps. For short term thinkers, the whole point is to automate yourself out of a job

If you don’t already know a close crew of friends, I would suggest starting an Empty Nesters In Training group.

Get together once or twice a month or so, makes the transition easier for when your kid graduates HS for college.

And also good luck with the job!

Like any kingdom, really depends on the king that rules. Trump will form the Nazi party and start stripping away more balances of power, but Biden will hopefully start restoring the democracy.

Humans are our own worst enemies. Whether it’s us fucking ourselves, fucking each other, or fucking the planet, it does seem we’re all gonna be fucked sooner or later at the going pace of things… ☹️
