A judge is due to decide Tuesday whether to undo President-elect Donald Trump’s conviction in his hush money case because of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity.
New York Judge Juan M. Merchan, who presided over Trump’s historic trial, is now tasked with deciding whether to toss out the jury verdict and order a new trial — or even dismiss the charges altogether. The judge’s ruling also could speak to whether the former and now future commander-in-chief will be sentenced as scheduled Nov. 26.
The Republican won back the White House a week ago but the legal question concerns his status as a past president, not an impending one.
“or even dismiss the charges altogether.”
I’m going with that one. The only justice in America is injustice.
Well he doesn’t want to be tried for treason, so he had better make it all disappear. I wish to fucking god I could put /s and mean it… we’re never seeing justice in America.
He can’t make this one disappear. The President can’t pardon state charges. This is completely up to Judge Merchan.
If he does the right thing, how long will it take for Trump to order that Merchan be arrested?
It wouldn’t change the sentence.
I wonder how long the judge will maintain his sanity after disappearing into solitary as an “enemy of the state”, and whether this will give him any comfort as he is beaten and waterboarded for funsies.
I think the general feeling now is very similar to how medieval serfs must’ve felt about their Lords. Totally disconnected from everyone else in their castle towers.
People need to think less like medieval serfs, and more like 18th century Frenchmen.
Never have been
we’re never seeing justice in America.
Just try jaywalking while black, buddy.
Like I said, we’ll never see justice in America.
The problem is that if he does not scrap it, he knows his life will be in danger, if not just terrorized by MAGA supporters. I really hope he does not scrap it, as it will set up a new precedent for Trump crimes.
Calling it now:
He does get sentenced, but will be given “time served” since he gave his Presidential paychecks back to the IRS.
This way, he didn’t “worm his way out of it” and then any politician caught doing anything can use the precedent of “I have been serving the country for years!” to avoid any actual punishment.
You wonder why so many politicians were lawyers all of their lives before getting into politics.
I’m really really trying to find some logic in this but basically if dismissed it’s stating that anyone who has ever been president is immune from anything they do at any point of time in their life?
Next, get refunds on all the tax you paid in your life and any rulling against you, since this is somehow how it works now.
Seriously. He wasn’t president when he committed these crimes and he wasn’t president when he was convicted of these crimes. There should be no question here.
