Warning: Elon Musk now has Huffman bending the knee. Whitepeopletwitter, iselondeadyet and loads of other Elon critical subs have been banned or suspended.

Just a warning, Reddit is no longer a safe place for free speech, it is compromised.

There is a bunch of different servers and anyone can start their own server if they want to.

Server admins can decide with which servers they exchange information or which they block.

So if one server goes down or the admins there go rogue powertripping, the rest can remain unaffected.

For the most part your user experience is pretty much the same like on reddit, with a better culture here. But if something really rubs you the wrong way, you can switch your home server, or make your own instead of only being able to leave.

I see, that makes sense. So If blue sky is not that way, does that mean it will essentially reach a point of saturation and monetization like everything else? In other words, enshittify? Thank you for your reply by the way.

      Welcome!

Make sure to try the All section too find new communities! You can block instances or communities you don’t like to moderate your own feed, it’s a lot less algorithmic than reddit is these days. Hot is what Reddit used to sort by.

The simple fact that there is an unnecessary amount of control given to a single person over the information and communication you share and consume automatically makes the environment this person controls an unsafe environment for free speech. Yes, there should be moderation, but it should by moderation by the community, not the person on the top of the unnecessary hierarchy. Centralized social media only serves its owners, it exists for no other reason.

Back before they went “independent,” kind of. When Sears sent legal threats to take down a post exploiting an xss bug to make a joke about grilling babies, reddit had a big public discussion on it, and ultimately left the post up

Sorry to post a reddit thread, but supposedly this was because of death threats to Elon bootlickers. https://www.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/comments/1ihq6ht/whats_going_on_with_whitepeopletwitter_that_got/

Which is ironic because Elon notoriously promoted project veritas literally catfishing his own employees at Twitter, and also brought back accounts like libsoftiktok that existed to target private individuals. But to be fair to Spez, maybe he would ban those things too.

How is advocating violence any better than being fascist? I don’t get it. It’s weird there’s this flood of violent threats and people treat it like it’s okay. But it’s not, it’s not any better than fascists threatening violence.

Reddit is, and has always been, run by Nazi sympathizers.

Not to be that guy, but be the change you want to see in the world.

I’ve had some troubles getting soulslikes communities going on here and have gone from three separate communities at most cracking around 100 monthly users, I think, to more than a 1000. It takes some time and effort, but you’ll get there if you’re consistent and passionate about it. Plus there might already be existing communities that you can build off of.

Just some unsolicited “advice”, I guess

Yeah for normal and safe stuff like favorite book series it’s easy. For mental health where you need to moderate suicide topics and disinformation that’s whole another challange. Those spaces should be made top down not bottom up. The moderator should really be an experts on that not some random basement dwellers. (My view is enteirely based on r/HealthyGamerGG@reddit.com)

The censorship on Reddit is insane. And I’m the opposite of a right wing conspiracy theorist nutjob posting wild misinformation. Like, regular posting is censored HARD.

Any platform that starts policing with bots is a platform no one should be on and is doomed to fail.
