This is an utter failure of oversight in governance. And likely a misappropriation of government funds.
What a colossally shortsighted decision.
I’m really starting to think it might be time to move to linux lol. I just keep putting it off
Linux has CVEs too, but switch
October 2025 is a good time to switch if you use Windows 10
Sadly I use 11. But seeing this has me pretty spooked and I’m really eyeing the exit rn.
People say Linux is more difficult, but I find Windows 11 both more difficult to make do what I need it to do and far more stressful because it’s slow, unreliable and prioritizes what Microsoft wants it to do over what I want it to do. Sometimes I pop into a Windows VM but only for particular things. I recommend the move.
Oh I fully agree. I have experience with arch based distros and in terms of the setup process it was infinitely better than W11. The main hitch is my gaming pc. But I’m likely just gonna slap cachyos on it and move on since it has good nvidia support.
You can still switch. 11 is my work Daly so now I use Linux at home.
There are some specific use cases, like some commercial software (Adobe especially) and online gaming anti-cheat, that don’t work on Linux, but other than that you have nothing to lose. And you can dual boot for those cases if you must.
Give it a shot and see if you like it. I, for one, am not going back.
online gaming anti-cheat
Just saying, if you have to give a game kernel level access to your glorified porn viewer in order to play it, you should really reconsider if its a good idea to play it, both from a security as well as a mental view.
Definitively, but there is a huge list of popular games that have it, so I think it’s fair to warn people about it so they can make an informed choice and not become a disgruntled ex-Linux user.
I am hopeful that Valve, and the game industry in general, manages to come up with a solution for game developers can come up with a solution that works for everyone, but so far I have not heard of one. Meanwhile, I’m happy to skip some games to stay on Linux.
I completely agree
Also I would use areweanticheatyet for looking up kernel level anti cheat, it gehts updates pretty often
I’m mostly worried about the performance downgrade tbh. I remember trying the last of us on there and I had to dump the settings to low in order to even get 60 on my 3070 at 1080p when on windows I was on ultra getting consistently around 100. Maybe it was just that game idk
It’s a legit concern, but like you said I think it’s very game dependent. Proton gets updates all the time, too. My recommendation is to look it up on protondb and see if there are major issues or tweaks you can apply. All I can say is there is no Linux tax on games. A game can run as well or better on Linux as Windows. It comes down to the specifics of the game.
I’ll check proton db when I get the chance. Tbf the last of us is a pretty messy pc port so it’s likely something related to that.
I did a quick check, and both The Last of Us Part I and II are rated Gold. In my experience, a gold rating is a good sign, but you may still need to tweak a setting or two. Definitively worth reading the comments and look especially if there are any known issues with your particular setup. Even things like dual screens, HiDPI, etc can sometimes make a difference.
The reason things are so unpredictable is it all works like Wine does: it doesn’t run Windows in a virtual machine: it re-implements the APIs (like Direct3D). This makes things fast (and sometimes faster!), when they work, but when the implementations deviate things can go off the rails.
Could be the game, could be the version of Proton, could be the driver. Could be plenty of things. It isn’t quite as plug and play as Windows can be, but it’s not that bad, provided your stack is compatible. I personally don’t really have any problems.
I switched at the start of the month, with the uncertainty around the economy I finally did my PC upgrade I’d been procrastinating, and - why get a windows license? Just go Linux.

ew, a link shortener.
Hey- all of you who have spent decades talking about how you’re smarter than the ignorant conservatives?
If you can’t outsmart them, what was the fuckin’ point?
Conservatives kind of prove that in a lot of ways, power really is the only thing that matters. Smarts mean nothing if you can’t leverage them and use the power you have when you have it. They pursue power for powers’ sake and then use it, even if they do it hamfistedly.
I fear that anyone who understands this and doesn’t change their tactics was never particularly bright to begin with.
Anybody can break something.
