Until you say fuck it, stop pretending to be a normie and find some new friends who accept and celebrate your true trash-goblin nature.

Well yes, but also I need to get along with people at work, so… I’m gonna have to pick my battles here. It’s not fun when your neurotypical boss develops a pet-hate against you.

This. I can’t deal with regular people. Sounds condescending as hell but almost none of my interests align with theirs. All of my friends abuse/abused drugs one way or the other. They live in untidy, yet comfy homes (I can’t deal with the clean, cookie-cutter hones you usually find). They rarely reach out to stay in touch, yet somehow we still manage to get together every now and then. They all have many interesting hobbies and are more intelligent than most other people. I feel comfy around them.

I don’t think people do this because their friends don’t like who they really are… It’s a compulsion I think.

Absolutely. Psychogically you can “know” that you’re okay, and people seem to like you for who you are, the same way someone with OCD can “know” they don’t have to do that thing over and over again. That doesn’t necessarily change the compulsion or address the anxiety.
