• Gal Gadot suggested that political pressure on celebrities to speak out against Israel contributed to Disney’s Snow White underperforming at the box office, though she acknowledged other factors played a role.

  • The film, starring Gadot and Rachel Zegler, earned $87 million domestically compared to higher-performing Disney remakes; Zegler faced criticism for her pro-Palestine stance during promotion.

  • Gadot emphasized she enjoyed working with Zegler, said her “conscience is clean” regarding support for Israel, and expressed hope for peace and safety for all people.

Disney fans don’t give a fuck about Palestine, sometimes there is just such a thing as a bad movie. People are tired of dumb live action remakes, and in general Snow White as a story just did not age well and was never going to be a success in modern cinema.

The hero has a good voice, and movie had a couple of good songs. Usually a good Disney formula. That and a popular, somewhat good plot, fairy tale remake, is part of the formula.

That formula doesn’t work anymore. Doing the exact same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over again will eventually show diminishing returns, and the overt racism and sexism of snow white just simply doesn’t have staying power. People don’t want that anymore. Even the blind consumers of disney.

Which is important to note, but that’s not what the comment above said. It said serving alone is grounds for hate. Israel fucking sucks, but I’m fine working with people who served in the IDF if they’re against Israel’s actions. We all should be, or our list of allies will be incredibly small, as what nation or group hasn’t contributed to horrific actions?

                  Hard disagree.

“I may have helped an army commit war crimes and I may have shot at people myself but I’m against the war” sounds like an insane excuse. “I was just following orders” has been conclusively debunked. I feel some pity for genuine objectors (the head of the Taylor swift fan club spent a few months in jail rather than serve) but they aren’t in the group you describe.

These people are just turning 18 and probably reluctant to leave their home and family/friends and probably don’t want to be in jail either. They’ve spent their entire life with propoganda shoved down their throats and with tons of pressure to just get it done. No, I won’t hold that against them.

I’ll hold it against them if they choose to take other actions, but not that. They didn’t choose where they were born.

Wherever you are living, you’ve done far less than it would take for these people to avoid serving. You’re comfortably sitting at home with relatively few worries.

Gal Gadot, had previous to Snow White casting or PR tour, openly blessed Israel’s genocide. I doubt that her repeating zionazi views in promoting film would have improved box office. There was a zionazi campaign against the film because the “hero” was anti-genocide, even with Gadot, as villain, a key part of the film.

Publicity for this zionazi hasbara of blaming box office on lack of full zionazi dedication of the studio, is yet another example of absolute zionazi control over US politics and media through giving neutral toned attention to Gadot despite her objectively anti-human demonism.

I don’t think she’s a terrible actress. More like middling. She really struggles with bad directors and poor scripts. She doesn’t have that geniality to inject original interpretation into her characters. I mean, I’ve seen analysis by body language acting specialists that say that all actors in snow white shared the same bad body language mistakes, and that’s a direction error. They were told to act that way, and they did. As is half of their job. The other half is saying “great, that was fun. But would you give me two or more takes to try something different?”

This is complete bullshit. Zegler’s one or two pro-Palestine comments made barely any difference to how the movie was received. And Gadot saying this smacks of of deflection and Israel persecution complex. By far the bigger factors were: nobody wanted to see it (and it was clearly a shallow money-grab by Disney), the whole dwarf portrayal fiasco, and Zegler being generally mouthy and unlikeable.

Was there not a backlash to Snow White being portrayed by a person of color? Prior to everyone knowing it was also a bad movie, I have to think that would have had an impact. Especially because a major part of Disney’s market is appealing to families in flyover states.

There’s always a backlash when there’s someone non-white (and often non-male) in a leading role in a movie these days. Often they really only get traction when the movie sucks, though.

I agree that typically that backlash is stupid and just racist, but even in the original folktale the entire reason she is called “Snow White” was because she was supposed to have “skin as white as snow”. It is weird that they chose a non-white actress in this case.

She also had a sister named Rose Red.

I feel like there’s already been significant changes from the source material, so changing such a minor factor as her skin color is probably not the faux pas racists think it is.

    the movie was pretty bad…

i described it to my friend like this, and had to double verify that i was not joking; this actually happened in the movie:

the movie didnt know what it wanted to be. it flipped back and forth between a mediocre comedy and an ultra-serious drama so quickly that when someone gets shot, goes into surgery and the tone changes to somber the audience is left to believe an important character just died… “GuESs wHAt TiME iT iS?!” and happy breakout into song and dance.

i just couldnt after that and left.

I mean, my favourite TV show does that all the time! Scrubs can swap on a dime. Then again it’s made by the masterful Bill Lawrence.

I would say it works in Scrubs because it breaks the rules of how you should handle it. They knew what they were doing well enough to make it work anyway. Most of the time it’ll probably not work, but if you’re a master then you can take the rules and break them to your advantage.
