Newsom’s got some bad policy stances, namely his takes on trans rights, but he’s still a progressive. A more accurate comment would be to say “a more progressive candidate.”

“Silver spoon neoliberals” such as the Clintons, Obama, Biden, Newsom, Pelosi, etc are definitely on our side as long as you’re on the side that opposes Republicans, which is really the bottom line here: we need to get Republicans out and oppose them at every turn, and hopefully New York remembers that when they hear this Trump endorsement of now third party Cuomo.

      he’s still a progressive

Newsom isn’t even a liberal, he’s just a sucking void of ambition. There’s no room for ideals or ethics. He’s a politician and only a politician.

Today it benefits him to troll trump on twitter so he does that. Tomorrow, if trump dies and miller offers newsom the presidency, he’d join the regime in a heartbeat.

If Newsom can make the whole of the USA in any way even slightly more like California is now, then great progress will have been achieved.

His approach to homelessness and trans rights makes it clear. He is just another neolib grifter

Him and every other dem want to tax the rich, repeal citizens united, and give healthcare coverage to all. That’s progressive even if one of his fringe stances were to sacrifice a small third world child to the mountain god every month with a ritual dagger.

dem want to tax the rich, repeal citizens united, and give healthcare coverage to all.

That’s just not true though. At no point have dems taken concrete steps towards any of those goals.

Obamacare is the closest they’ve got to any of that and it was explicitly to prevent medicare for all.

Biden and the DNC did raise taxes on the rich with the “Build Back Better Bill” passed via reconciliation and funded the IRS with directions to audit the rich, which they did and actually made a large profit doing so. They also expanded Medicaid to the point that a record breaking number of people were covered as Biden left office.

The Republican tax bill from 2016 would have expired this year and at no point during have the DNC had more than 48 senators: repealing that, reversing citizens united, and giving healthcare coverage to all would require supermajority or at the very least a large enough majority to safely remove the filibuster.

You haven’t seen progress? How very astute of you! You’ve also never seen a clean DNC majority, and you’ve specifically ignored the small wins that did happen.

Cuomo would have been on your list of Dems that pretend to be progressive if Mamdani had not stepped in. Trump’s endorsement of the false progressive should tell you all you need to know about that crowd.

We’re not even at the primaries and here you are with the “yeah, he’s transphobic and would murder unsheltered people for spot if no one was looking, but YOU MUST VOTE NEWSOM IF YOU ARE NOT A REPUBLICAN.

Fuck Newsom and fuck the “blue no matter who” crowd that shits on actual progress.

I just want to say how grateful I am to have finally come full circle on this after being a voice in the wilderness for sooo long. Litterally Blue MAGA/ BNMW/ ABWD threw the election to fascists and then tried to blame the left. Its so heartening to finally not have to be the only one making this point and to watch it break through into the mainstream.

If it were Cuomo vs Sliwa I’d be 100% behind Cuomo. “Better than Republican” is the only qualifier for my support, and it’s a real fucking easy bar to clear.

But Cuomo thankfully lost the nomination and “a more progressive” candidate is the DNC instead.

You seem to actually really like the Republicans.

I don’t think you realize how politics works. You’re saying that you would not vote or vote 3rd party if there was a choice between hitler and newsom? You vote your conscience until the choice is made for you.

So, an imaginary candidate is preferred over Newsom, imperfect as he is?

Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good. Republicans don’t, which is why they’re in power.

Champion the overtly and successfully progressive when they’re available, and the less progressive to be better.

Here in the real world we need candidates who are electable.

Every cycle. Every fucking cycle. Before the primary: “We need someone ELECTABLE. Not someone good.” After the primary: “The time to have a problem with this racist, transphobic, corporate dick sucking bag of hateorade was BEFORE the primary. It’s your civic duty to vote for this blue piece of trash now!”

What’s our side here? You say that like I know. Like any of us know. But what side is that? Cuz you keep naming people that are on the corporate side. You mentioned Gavin Newsom being against trans rights and homeless people, but you left out the fact that he’s incredibly Pro corporate. And he’s been a thorn in the side of people trying to regulate corporate overreach. Particularly Tech corporations. He has shown himself hostile to labor. He has showed himself hostile to regulation. He has shown himself hostile to environmental regulations. He has shown himself to be Pro big business. So what side is he on and what side am I on is my question? Like all neoliberals he is an arch capitalist. I am decidedly not. So how the fuck is he on my side?

I would hope that we’re all on the side of “stop the endless pointless suffering” but apparently a lot of the people in this thread are very pro-rich and pro-authoritarian that they want to abstain from voting for DNC frontrunners if they win the primaries.

The saddest thing about this is I think you’re serious. I think you really think these people that have aligned themselves as the servants of the ultra wealthy have your interests at heart. That these people that believe in late stage capitalism are going to protect you from fascism. And that’s just crushingly depressing. Because somewhere in your mind you think capitalism and fascism are opposing ideologies. Whereas in reality one’s just the result of the other.

You are like the oysters walking along happily with the walrus and the carpenter.

No buddy, neoliberals only draw water for their ultra wealthy friends. All while telling us that the water is gone. That’s why they’ve been dismantling all the public wells for the last 40 years. Open up your eyes and notice.
