Im here because reddit keep banning my site wide for no reasons and i could use something new. I know about piefed/lemmy, i must say its pretty good but is it the best alternative to reddit is there more out there?
Just wondering what you all think?
Walking slowly through the forest on a warm day and listening to the birds chirping.
This is literally it, my dude.
I interact on Lemmy/Piefed, and I lurk on Reddit. Most of reddit has gone way downhill, but some of the niche communities there are still valuable resources.
FWIW, Lemmy has its own mod problems. I had a post deleted and the mod specifically said I hadn’t broken a community rule, they just didn’t think it belonged. Weirdly, there are plenty of similar posts on the corresponding Reddit sub, and the subject of my post directly impacted the subject of the community. I had even gotten some useful replies and the post was moderately upvoted but the community. This butt was just lording his power, and there wasn’t really anything I could do (I’m not starting a new community and putting in all the effort of growing it because of some dick on the Internet).
This is the best one, but it’s not a replacement. I feel the need to add threads/bluesky to have more “normal” content.
people who use a platform based on it’s supposed politics are never going to be normal. they are going to be ideological and see everything through said ideology and try to enforce that ideology on others on the platform.
and they aren’t going to allow ‘normal’ content if normal isn’t coded/policed to be consistent with their beliefs.
reddit was ‘normal’ until 2016, and then slowly every aspect of the site was politicized. i used to have lots of different viewpoints and a general consensus in the middle somewhere. after 2016 reddit started fracturing into more extremist camps who would take over various subreddits and impose their views on everyone else.
I definitely have no interest in content where it’s just conservatives who want to pretend that it’s normal to hate people or whatever. I meant more like, fun memes, earth photography, local events, etc.
Have you tried Mastodon? It’s more like a replacement for twitter but there’s definitely accounts you can follow that just do memes, photography, muppet gifs, etc… You can certainly fill a feed with that there.
Mastodon leans heavily to the nerd/geek side, very very few normies have ever signed up
what about content where it’s liberals hating on conservatives or policing every event for diveristiy and inclusion?
like i used to post about bike rides on reddit. and host them. then i got harassed for being ‘ableist’, because what about someone who can’t ride a bike, i’m excluding them and being discriminatory.
You getting grief from a liberal idiot who is too overzealous about inclusion is not exactly the same as someone posting about hatred, fear and exclusion.
I definitely wouldn’t care about that personally, but I would just block anyone who is an issue.
yeah i can do that, until they report me and get me banned because the mod in charge of the event space agrees with them.
Reddit has gotten impossible with that nonsense. I got banned from a sub for calling out someone who posted a tweet about tariffs being beneficial as a scholarly source. I said, this isn’t a source it’s some guys opinion.
In another sub I got banned for suggesting that liberals claim to be above using attack ads was a dumb opinion because they’ve never said any such thing.
The polarization is bad for everyone.
people who are polarized don’t see it that way. they only care about your agreement or using violence if you disagree.
lemmy has a ton of users who openly advocate for violence against those they disagree with. but if you ask them if they apply that standard of themselves, they say start telling you that’s the ‘paradox of tolerance.’ because you know their opinions are totally good if they are intolerance of the intolerance! but they themselves should be tolerated! or something. it’s pure insanity.
everyone wants to be the perpetrator of violence, but never it’s victim…
it was in a local city subreddit
So…
People in your community had an issue with you destroying local wildlife and endangering a pet…
And that was your takeaway?
That kind of makes it feel like all the rest of your issues are being similarly misrepresented, and there was a lot more going on than you’re saying.
reddit was ‘normal’ until 2016,
Lol
Is there any alternatives other than PieFed and Lemmy? Given that even Lemmy still lacks the content to serve as a suitable reddit replacement for most people, I can’t imagine that theres anything else short of a bunch of disconnected, dedicated, niche interest forums.
mbin (For example fedia.io) federates with both Lemmy and Mastodon, and as a nice UI. I have a backup account on-it, worth a try
Honestly, I forgot Mbin was a seperate piece of software. I was too focused trying to think of non-Fediverse alternatives. How is Mbin? I hear so little about it nowadays.
yes, there are. and there was in the past but some shutdown or userbase left.
they never had as many users as lemmy does. lemmy is the largest coherent alternative that is open and accessible.
there are much smaller closed off platforms.
i am very happy with mbin. a lot of people are insisting there are no other alternatives in this thread but i am literally posting here from mbin lmao. the UI is very slick and it can also reply to microblog posts on platforms like mastodon, givinf you a full viee of the fedi. there are also non-federated alternatives like lobste.rs and i think digg is trying to stage a comeback
Haven’t found anything better than this.
https://tildes.net/ is pretty neat for discussion. It seems to have a quality over quantity thing going on.
I really wanted to like tildes, but it was just a little bit too small for me. Lemmy/piefed is about the right size: you can usually get a core group of 2-3 people who are into a niche, with various other “occasionals” contributing (my personal examples: !gothindustrial@lemmy.world, !sumo@lemmy.world, !juggalos@lemmy.world) Long-term it’d be nice to be just a bit bigger so we’d have a couple more core members in niche subs, or cycling thru people in case folks drop off bc of “life”, but we’re in a good place ATM.
I liked the UI when I first encountered it, but it being invite-only killed what interest I had in it pretty quick during the 2023 reddit exodus. Seems to still be invite only in 2026.
deleted by creator
tildes has a very strong bent. if you say anything the admin disagrees with you get banned.
Maybe the Nazi ones are more “your fit”? Truth social or Xitter? I’m sure there’s more.
Signing up through Lemmy.org reminds me of the old days of reddit. No email required. A VPN and a disposable account that you discard after a couple of weeks? All of a sudden I’m interacting again instead of just lurking.
Yours truly, Lemmy.World or any other threadiverse instance
