I’ve been to the house. It’s mostly open to the cats, and they say they’re not allowed but every visitor says there was a cat asleep on the bed.
If you’re wondering, yes, the house does smell like cat pee.
Didn’t smell like cat pee when I visited and there were many cats. A couple were on that bed. Some were on shelves in the gift store. Basically, they’re everywhere.
For those who are, like me, confused about how the cat could belong to a man who died an entire human lifetime ago: the museum houses descendants of Hemingway’s childhood cat (and a bunch of other cats too). The website has a page about them that includes pictures of a few https://www.hemingwayhome.com/our-cats
This sent me down a rabbit hole where I learned PETA investigated the house. According to Wikipedia, even PETA said “What I found was a bunch of fat, happy and relaxed cats.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernest_Hemingway_House
That article also has another picture of a cat lounging on priceless historical artifacts.
Their legal troubles with the USDA over these cats is an interesting read as well.
Fuck yes I love shit like this.
That dude has the ancestral memory of the coziest spot in the home.
That’s a really nice house, why was bro so depressed anyway?
Oh… PTSD, chronic pain, alcoholism and untreated mental illness.
That’s either a really short bed, or a really wide bed.
Maybe a way too many pillows just slightly off camera bed.
If you haven’t been, it’s a great place to visit. The cats are everywhere, and they’re very friendly.
Id love to see it, but unfortunately its in Florida and i have no desire to go there
Legally it is Florida, so I won’t try to convince you otherwise. Culturally though, the Florida Keys are pretty distinct from the mainland. Nice place, except for all the usual high tourism island pitfalls, but they are alleviated considerably since there is a bridge.
Do we know the polydactyl cats didn’t use their thumbs to do his writing?
You’re onto something:

I have ~5 polydactyl community cats in my neighborhood. I’ve adopted one of them, and another that is bonded with it that isn’t poly. My dad adopted one of the poly’s as well. If anyone wants them we have free polydactyl cats out here.
Well, where are you?!
I’m in northern Minnesota and could likely talk my wife into adopting a homeless cat!
Haha I am sadly quite far from you. They are all well fed atleast
I learned about this place through a phone call with a very nice Costco rep a little while ago lmao
Super cool picture! Wish I could visit with my cats
‘hey bro, if you sign up for the executive membership, I’ll tell you where to find some kitties’
‘phasing through the telephone Y E S’
