They wanted to hang you dude
I wouldn’t be celebrating this. The reason why he’s not getting traction is because he didn’t help overthrow the US government. That’s a terrifying reason for him to lose.
He was never popular. He was a useful tool for trump to help court the religious vote. When it became clear they were supporting him despite his obvious non religious demeanor, pence served no purpose to the cult or to non cult Republicans. Sure, it was terrifying it got so close to a couple. But even without a coup or attempts to kill him, he was never a viable candidate.
Biden was likewise not popular but being vice president allowed him to leverage Obama’s reputation to the presidency. We will never know what happens in the counterfactual where Pence enters the primaries without having “betrayed” Trump. But frankly, I find these super confident post-facto predictions irksome.
Biden didn’t get the presidency due to Obama’s good reputation, but rather as an ‘anyone but Trump’ vote based on Trump’s history and reputation.
No, we can only speculate. As you are, lol.
That’s ridiculous. Of course Biden benefited from being Obama’s VP.
I am advocating for uncertainty. You are confidently saying that Pence was never going to win. Yours is over-confident speculation and mine isn’t.
Yes, of course he benefitted. He also benefitted from being a known quantity. It is not what won the election, though.
Trump lost the election, not Biden winning. An empty paper cup would likely have won if it was the alternative candidate.
“Turns out, the people who wanted to hang me two years ago won’t vote for me. Who’d of thought?”

Alternative headline: “Pence discovers the Republican Party is full of Republicans”
I’m not a Republican and I don’t agree with Pence on anything, but he could have gained traction if he actually grew a spine and got the GOP back on the tracks by standing up against Trump and taking a conservative morals and values tact. He simply didn’t, and politically he got exactly what he deserved. This is the problem with every other conservative Christian candidate. At the end of the day their Christian values are just worthless drivel.
Values are worthless and they present no solutions.
As bland and featureless as this guy is, I wouldn’t be surprised if he also fails to gain literal traction when literally running.
He just couldn’t seem to get his feet under him. The noose must have been too high.
Mike Pence of the “Hang Mike Pence” fame? I suppose it’s hard to build momentum with a party that thinks the one principled action he took was an act of betrayal.
If Pence had owned stopping Trump and telling everyone what Trump did while trying to destroy democracy he may have had a chance as a hero. But he didn’t. He tried to still suck up to Trump and that didn’t work. Trump turned on him.
Yeah if he actually very loudly went against Trump he’d distinguish himself from the others. Instead he blends in as a milquetoast evangelical saying “harder daddy”
Please clap.
This is the best summary I could come up with:
NEW YORK (AP) — Former Vice President Mike Pence is dropping his bid for the Republican presidential nomination, ending his campaign for the White House after struggling to raise money and gain traction in the polls.
“After much prayer and deliberation, I have decided to suspend my campaign for president effective today,” Pence said at the Republican Jewish Coalition gathering in Las Vegas.

The decision, more than two months before the Iowa caucuses that he had staked his campaign on, saves Pence from the embarrassment of failing to qualify for the third Republican primary debate, Nov. 8 in Miami.

Throughout his campaign, the former Indiana governor and congressman had insisted that while he was well-known by voters, he was not “known well” and set out to change that with an aggressive schedule that included numerous stops at diners and Pizza Ranch restaurants.
Pence had been betting on Iowa, a state with a large white Evangelical population that has a long history of elevating religious and socially conservative candidates such as former Arkansas Gov.

Pence often campaigned with his wife, Karen, a Christian school teacher, and emphasized his hard-line views on issues such as abortion, which he opposes even in cases when a pregnancy is unviable.

“Tapioca pudding stops trying to be America’s favorite dessert”
He has a lot of testifying to do as a witness in trumps crimes anyway.
Now that he’s dropping out, I wonder if he still thinks he has a career in politics or he now becomes critical of trump? I suppose if he was going to turn critical, he would have done so as a last ditch attempt to gain traction before dropping out. He doesn’t have the courage.
