This reminds me of HOL (Human Occupied Landfill), which I’ve read about but haven’t played.
Anyway, it has stats like Meat, Feet, and Mouth, and skills like “That Psycho Bruce Lee Shit”, “Pilot Starship and Chew Gum at the Same Time”, “Whining Until You Get What You Want”, and “Turn Radios Into Howitzers”.
Sounds like something on a spectrum between Call of Cthulu 1981 and West of Loathing.
Came to say this same thing, Call of Cthulhu 1981 is a blast, the most fun I’ve had with a TTRPG.
Surviving any situation would be based on coolness, dopeness, freshness, smartbrain, and dancing ability.
Two of these stats are in my TTRPG (gumption and moxie).
It also features things like pep, knacks, savvy, and nerve.
Uh, link??!? Or is it only on paper?
The system itself is done but the setting-specific stuff is still in the works. It’s designed to be modular, so there are different systems for different settings. The sort of cyberpunky shadowrunny system is close to ready to release a doc aside from like needing more feat-like upgrades and equipment lists. There’s also a kind of Eldritch apocalyptic setting that overlaps with most of the same modules and is nearly ready.
I’ve been putting it on hold lately and focusing on a game I’m making in Godot because I sort of ran out of steam for playtesting it. It is a huge pain in the ass to be both designing a system and planning a weekly campaign to test the system with at the same time.
I’ll probably swap back to working on it for a while once the game is done, because I plan on using the system in my next game.
This sounds like a modified Kids on Bikes system as seen in a few seasons of Dimension 20.
Made me think about Dimension 20’s Mentopolis. All of these would be characters instead of stats though.
Nice. If they ever do another season of Mentopolis, I hope they get Hank Green to play "The Fix"s younger brother “Childlike Wonder”.
I think chutzpe and moxie used to be stats in Paranoia
So. FATE?
Just rework gumshoe
Between Kingdom of Loathing and West of Loathing, they’ve got half of these covered.
I feel like Shadow over Loathing might tap into the rest, lol
Hmm… Now I need a Loathing TTRPG.
whats a jib?
I know it’s a joke, but: a really small sail.
This reminds me of West of Loathing
The X of Loathing series is fantastic. Another stat that comes to mind is Hornswogglin’
Um, achtually, Hornswagglin’ is a skill and not a stat B^P
Oh shit i didn’t know it was a whole series
Yeah, it started with Kingdom of Loathing, which is a free to play browser game, and more recently Shadows over Loathing, which has this cool 1920s Lovecraftian setting. All keep that great humor :D
Thank you! My ex gf and I used to play a ton of Kingdom. I knew about “West of Loathing”, but this is the first time hearing about “Shadows Over Loathing”.
love this series so much
There could be a debuff called “wishy washy”, it increases your childlike wonder, but lowers your gumption.
Jib.
The jib sail is the triangular one at the prow of a ship. Different countries used different designs, so liking the cut of a jib meant you recognized it.
Shush, Gob.
Funny, because ‘gob’ is a slang term for sailor.
The term “gob” is colloquial, originating from the slang used within the navy to refer to sailors. Its use is informal and can carry a tone of familiarity or affection among members of the naval community. On the other hand, “sailor” is the more formal and universally recognized term for anyone who works or serves on a ship, regardless of their specific duties or the type of vessel. “Sailor” encompasses a broad category of maritime professionals and enthusiasts, including those in both military and civilian spheres.
So, sned me $10.00 for a banana
Heres my character for this campaign
Looks like you minmaxed for Gib Cut. I like that.
Ah, the “Provincial dad” class.
