The Senate left Washington Saturday night for its monthlong August recess without a deal to advance dozens of President Donald Trump’s nominees, calling it quits after days of contentious bipartisan negotiations and Trump posting on social media that Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer can “GO TO HELL!”

Just shows how mature Trump is. What other president would use language like that. He really is a spoiled, scared little child who is so used to getting his own way.

Not that I want them to pass this legislation, but why does Congress get to take the month of August off and the average American doesn’t?

I’m pretty sure the idea is two fold. First, being a politician wasn’t supposed to be a full time job. The second is that politicians need to spend time in their home state to hear from constituents and be a part of their state (travel which used to take days/weeks for travel).

Many of them do. Check around and see if your local Rep or Senator is holding any town halls. Though, this year, republicans have been dodging them left and right. Trump/GOP policies have been radioactive amongst their constituents so GOP leadership has told them not to hold any town halls. Those who have gone against that suggestion have found their sessions intense.

Steil entered the Elkhorn High School auditorium on Thursday to resounding boos and faced a raucous crowd for the duration of the 80-minute session, including fierce questions on his support of Trump’s agenda, as well as frequent interruptions, chants, and jeering.

If you do have republican representation in your area, you may have the opportunity to go to a democratic run town hall. Since republicans have been hiding from their voters, a number of democratic Senators and Reps have started going into republican controlled districts and holding their own town halls there.

House Democrats are ramping up their town-hall blitz in GOP-held districts over the long summer recess. The strategy is not new, but this time they’re armed with a powerful new talking point: President Trump’s refusal to release the federal files related to Jeffrey Epstein.

Oh don’t worry, I actively check the pages of my reps and senators.

I’m in Oregon, so my two US senators are the bomb and come to every county once a year. Love them.

Our local us rep and state rep/senators are all Republican sleazeballs who avoid any and all public appearance and town halls like they’re the plague, or when our us rep did exactly one town hall last year, he gave less than 24hr notice so nobody had time to get down there. Their offices never respond to emails or letters.

Just look at the ones the republicans criticize the most like AOC or Ilhan Omar, they actually spend time with their constituents and try to understand their struggles and concerns all the time.

Without a deal in hand, Republicans say they may try to change Senate rules when they return in September to speed up the pace of confirmations. Trump has been pressuring senators to move quickly as Democrats blocked more nominees than usual this year, denying any fast unanimous consent votes and forcing roll calls on each one, a lengthy process that can take several days per nominee.
