The grand jury did not return an indictment against a former Justice Department employee who was seen on camera throwing a hoagie at the chest of one of the federal officers President Donald Trump has deployed in the nation’s capital, according to two people familiar with the matter.
The grand jury’s decision not to indict Sean Dunn is another sign of pushback from Washington, D.C., residents over Trump’s deployment of the National Guard and other federal law enforcement agencies in the city, who have put a particular focus on immigration enforcement. I mean, I can’t believe it’s even called into question, there was no danger to the officer from the action.
It’s still assault, and in normal times I’d support minor charges. Currently, I’d like to buy the guy a new sandwich.
It may be assault, but only because assault is an extremely generic crime. It could also be considered self defense. At this point, many would consider ICE agents simply being nearby as an imminent threat of harm.
And IIRC from previous reports about this, the prosecution was pushing charges as a felony under a bullshit anti-terrorism clause, and I believe this was the third Grand Jury that chose not to indict.
There is no “may”. It is absolutely an assault. Assault doesn’t even require physical contact. Battery is arguable and might be a stretch, but it is definitely assault. And no, or was not self defense by any stretch.
As I said though, that’s normal times stuff. I don’t currently recognize Trump’s ICE as a legitimate law enforcement agency, or human beings really.
Yeah, calling it terrorism is bullshit, and actually could itself be considered terrorism in my opinion.
