Arrest them, charge them, and see how the regime handles it.

Action needs to be taken NOW. These Nazi’s are weak and dumb, we can take them down, but we have to do it sooner rather than later.

Is there a reminder bot on Lemmy? I bet you $20 in three months Pritzker will still have done absolutely nothing. Not one single agent will be arrested. This is a solid bet because one of them could ways roid out and kill someone in broad daylight, in which case it might be possible.

What a bunch of sad fucking sacks everyone on Lemmy is.

    Jesus christ.

Someone wants to do something and its never e-fucking-nough.

Lemmy LeftistsTM would rather tear down anyone who wants to do anything positive rather than do anything that actually matters.

Every comment in this thread should be ashamed of themselves.

    Holy shit.

But he doesnt want to do something, that’s the problem. Saying we might look at prosecutions maybe one day after Trump is out is not the action of someone who’s wanting to do something while, right NOW, ICE is running amok in his city. Dems need to either act, or STFU. Enough with the posturing.

It’s almost like you need to KNOW who the person is and have an actual case to…uh, prosecute? You don’t just go throwing cases around. You do have to “look” into things first.

The people in charge of ICE are federal and have internal loyalists that won’t give up names or deployments to state authorities. It’s documented somewhere though and it won’t be found until after Trump is out because you need to get people in who can put pressure through firings and appointments who will then be able to collect that info.

Here’s the thing: Since ICE doesn’t identify, any masked law enforcement impersonator could be an actual criminal. Stop and frisk of masked paramilitary isn’t far-fetched with the right spin. As another said; this is calvinball at this point.

Oh, I totally agree. I think anyone with masks and paramilitary look, no or obscured plates, and unwilling to identify themselves with masks and gear on should absolutely be questioned.

The reality is that those people are hitting random humans on the street when no law enforcement is around which makes it hard for law enforcement to engage them if ordered to. When they are present, it’s at the detention facility and they’ve gotten pepper balled and tear gassed but I don’t know what legal route they have since it’s a federal facility and I don’t know what constitutes federal jurisdiction and is/isn’t allowed.

Considering that ICE doesn’t allow congressmen and the like to inspect facilities, the obvious move is to consider those facilities to be unlicensed by the State. That removes the federal’s ownership of them, because they aren’t upholding the terms and conditions.

Add in roadblocks to prevent the trafficking of humans by ICE, where the police has to unmask ICE, take pictures, check whether plates & VINs are legit, whether the ICE have gun licenses and legal arms, and the citizenship status of people being transported by ICE, while allowing them to contact people. Also give journalists and civilians permission to openly document these proceedings.

Toss in a dedicated facility run by the state to hold potential trafficking victims, with the restriction that they must be deposited and kept there for a week, with access to a lawyer and care. Because we want to restrict what ICE can do to people, regardless of their actual citizenship status. It is better for a State to set such rules, rather than letting feds get the final say.

…to sum up: FRICTION. Every slow down and bit of awkwardness is against the “work fast and break things” mentality of ICE.

    Lot of talk…

We can’t afford to give credit for people talking about shit. If it happens later, give credit to the prosecutors and low level government employees who make it happen.

The reason every primary is the same wealthy neoliberals, is they suck up all the media attention.

“We aren’t doing anything today or tomorrow but oh boy just you wait!”

It’s insane the degree to which both parties use this ploy over and over and over again, while people still eat it up every time as if this time will be different.

Remember though, the supreme court gave all presidents immunity from prosecution for crimes they committed during their presidency. So this whole statement is a joke

The president has immunity, no one else does.

If trump says “kill that guy” he can’t get in trouble, whoever pulls the trigger is in an entirely different situation.

Looking at maybe possibly almost going to likely fucking FUCK OFF.

WHEN ARE WE GOING TO DO JOURNALISM?

    when is it enough?

I have an idea. The first main stream journalist that actually reports on the truth of US politics, I start a grassroots funding campaign to make that dude as rich as we can afford?

Neat idea, Supremacy Clause goes brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr though. This doesn’t stop until the left has power at the federal level or something more dramatic takes place.

Maybe not. That only says federal laws take precedence over conflicting state laws, but executive orders are not federal laws, plus violating a law is violating a law (I imagine they’ll abuse qualified immunity though).

While I hate to continue the partisan approach to justice, that applies here too, if the next administration doesn’t support the current fascism

Qualified immunity is only protection from civil litigation. It does nothing to prevent criminal charges.
