Babysitting my mom’s three cats. She left a box of Churu. They like them a lot. I was surprised. I thought it was just a few rare internet videos I have watched. Cats really like this.

Churu is the fucking real deal. I have this cat that has already lost a kidney and the other is very bad, he was very very skinny and I tried all kinds of treats and tasty things for him to eat, he spent three days getting IV fluids in the vet and the vet said he liked Churu so I bought it… anyway, this was three years ago, the last time we did a blood test and his creatinine wouldn’t fall below 5, he is still alive, the motherfucker is even chubby, he is moved by Churu, I think he is only alive so he can have more Churu, we give him from 4 to 7 everyday… I don’t even dare to do a blood test again, how he has no clinical symptoms of his severe kidney failure after so many years and still has shining fur is crazy

Just brought him back from the vet, he had to do a thorax drainage and spent two days taking IV diuretics, but he will complete the treatment at home, and on Monday we’re gonna x-ray him to see what is wrong (we’re guessing heart, but because of the liquids the previous x-ray couldn’t see properly), but he is fine now.
He eats normal cat food, but I was going there twice a day just to give him Churu (motherfucker won’t eat from the bowl, he needs to taste our servitude). I actually took a picture yesterday:

Hey, it’s been a long while I’ve been thinking about making a website for my pets (I currently take care of 35 cats and 4 dogs), and I started working on it for real the other day. Gonna see if today I make a profile for him and his brother (https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/62154428). Let me know If you are interested, then I will link it when it’s ready.

Aww! We also learned of Churu because of our elder kitty. She passed last year, 20+yrs old. It ended up becoming her only meals aside from meds/supplements. It made me glad to see her still enjoying things and having energy to get around unlike when we were just using the rx food, which she didn’t like.

I would like to apply for a housecat position, I will be happy with just 5 treats a day, plus lunch and dinner. I can also meow at you for seemingly no reason, and run around the house in the middle of the night. I can push things off of surfaces as well, though rarely just to keep things exciting.

I started with subcutaneous but after some time it wasn’t putting a dent on creatinine levels so I went to intravenous, doing once a week, but then he developed phlebitis, so I changed to once every two weeks and alternating between front and back legs. He won’t eat anything but Churu now, and I will never introduce another cat to Churu because they go crazy and then you can’t give anything else lol - I tried cheaper local brands, other cats absolutely loved when he didn’t even try so I gave it to them :P
I have another cat with kidney problems and she is on a low phosphorus diet already, but him? He doesn’t even try to taste it

It looks like you’ve got a really good handle on his issues then - I wish all of you long, healthy and happy lives together :)

I’ve heard of it. My cat doesn’t care for it.

Which is funny because he’s fat, and very food motivated. Jumps off the couch when his auto feeder runs.

Like, he’ll eat the tube stuff, but not out of the tube, and he doesn’t go crazy for it. Very odd.

My buddies cats like it though, so 🤷‍♂️

It’s basically just watered-down cat food in a tube. And, honestly, not all cats like it. We have one cat that will eat it, but only if I squirt it out onto a plate. The other cat won’t even touch the stuff.

Cats eat by sense of smell before taste. Churu is basically thin tapioca pudding with a shitload of strong scents in it that drive them absolutely wild!

I’ve used churu to end wars between cats. It’s a game changer for earning a good reputation when you’re new to a suspicious cat. Maybe they don’t let you touch them yet, but now they come out to see you in case you brought more of that delicious goo.

Friend of mine who works at a vet gave me some churu once, but my cats were totally uninterested in it. Only way i got them to eat any was to mix it in with their dry food lmao.

No idea if it’s true or not but there was a rumor back in the day, that “natural flavors” was code for just a tiny bit of catnip essence.

Anecdotal data point, my cat hates catnip. Spray it? He flips shit and runs. Drop some flakes? He approaches it slowly and then just walks away. Toys? Won’t touch them.

But he’ll eat the shit out of Chury

My cats actually prefer Delectables over Churu (they tell me it’s a consistency/texture thing). But I think both brands have some form of bone marrow in them to make them extra umami. Not nip. Could be why your nip-resistant kitties still lose their minds over Churu.

My cat weirdly aggressively hates them. She hisses at them and tries to bite me the like two times iv ever offered her one.

She normally doesn’t even purr she makes no noises and gets scared if she catches her self making any. So for her to actively hiss is wild.

    Cats are wierd

Hmm, I feel like I’ve been warned by stumbling across this thread. And at first I thought it was stealth marketing.
