After immigrants are detained by ICE, there are probably records somewhere of who has an attorney, and who is calling family members or an attorney.

For the immigrants who aren’t calling any family or lawyers, the poorest of the poor, people with little to no connection to anyone, who may not even say which country they are from, if the administration were actually trying to kill as many disconnected immigrants as possible in secret, would society know?

For example, if the administration was composed of all types of conservative people, but 30 percent were secretly Nazis or wanted racial genocide, could there be a campaign to not just remove, but kill, immigrants, and the public doesn’t find out?

Deporting people who are then killed in a new county (as part of the process) somehow would count in this tally, dropping people out of a plane into the ocean would count, etc. Could stuff like that be done and the public is just not aware?

Is there any master list of immigrants who are detained and a record of proof of life later or do we just not know?

Part of the reason I am asking this is I am very naive, and gullible, and ignorant. I don’t like ICE, but I don’t know that much about the immigration system.

I don’t know if it would be impossible for 20 percent of immigrants to be diverted to things that will kill them without non-racists (who are mere authoritarian fascists) telling people, or whether the record keeping is so bad anything is possible, or whether such fears are unfounded.

During the holocaust, one thing that happened is many people didn’t know the extent of the horrors until after it happened. I sometimes am worried about things like that, about it being worse than we know.

I was also thinking about immigrants who are disconnected, like not close with family, not many friends, very poor… Is there any way for someone like that to disappear in the system in a way in which those in power are actually killing the person?

I genuinely don’t know the answer. I believe ICE is cruel to people and evil, but I have no idea if there’s some limit we know about (ie, “it’s bad, but we know they aren’t brutally murdering large number of people they’ve abducted because we would know.”) I already know that they deny immigrants needed medical care in custody, resulting in killing immigrants, and I already know they arbitrarily kill some portion of immigrants during the arrest and detainment process through brutality.

This is what I came here to post, and no! There’s ~50 billion in fresh funding burning a hole in ICE’s pocket, purchase orders for camps very much including infrastructure for the handling of remains, and published quotas impossible to meet any other way though!

To be precise: there is no record of what happened to ~1600 of the “detainees” who went through that camp. They were booked in but not out. Not held, released, or deported. Just gone.

Actively, no. But part of the camps is intentional neglect like thermal insulation in the housing, pack of blankets, poor material quality, pest infested bedding, no screens to stop mosquitoes, etc. The lack of protections means increased mortality and morbidity for the captured.

Since they currently house a few thousand in different centers the likelihood of a quarter of unreported dead is unlikely but not impossible. But they definitely have a short awful future which none affected deserve.

I’m not convinced that these people are organized and competent enough to kill people in that scale without people finding out.

That said, I am certain that a whole lot if people have been killed in custody and covered up, but I don’t think it’s on a scale like that.

We’re at the early stage of them trying plan A which is mass deportation to hostile countries until they realize how expensive it is. Then they’ll move on from there. So is mass killing happening? Not likely. Is genocide in place though? Absolutely.

    Possible, but highly unlikely.
For starters, if that many were killed, I think it’d be really hard to keep a lid on it these days.

Secondly, I’ve done a lot of reading on the atrocities of WW2, and two immediate constraints come to mind:

    • Bodies. While possible, disposing of that many bodies without anyone noticing will be really hard.
    • The gas chambers of ww2 were only planned during the Wannsee conference in 1942, long after the holocaust actually started. The gas chambers were built because the original plan was not sustainable: People killing other people at an industrial scale. No matter how vile a person is, the human mind was not built to deal with having to mow down swathes of humans with a gun. Even the worst SS troops largely couldn’t deal with killing that many defenseless people, even if they were convinced it was “for the greater good”. The amount of SS troops who ended up unable to continue due to the mental after effects is staggering.

Nazis weren’t able to fly easily over the ocean during WW2. You wouldn’t be able to reach Holocaust numbers with a plane, but I think “deporting” people but dumping them into the ocean could be possible and seems easy to hide.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vasily_Blokhin

Blokhin was selected for the position by Joseph Stalin in 1926 and led a company of executioners that performed and supervised numerous mass killings in the Soviet Union during Stalin’s reign, mostly during the Great Purge and Eastern Front of World War II.[1] Blokhin is recorded as having executed tens of thousands of prisoners by his own hand, including his killing of about 7,000 Polish prisoners of war during the Katyn massacre in spring 1940, making him the most prolific official executioner in recorded world history.[1][2][3] Blokhin was forced into retirement in 1953 after the death of Stalin and condemned during de-Stalinization shortly before his death in 1955.

It’s not just the SS, the Wehrmacht also “suffered” from having to shoot all these people. Read up on Babij Jar, Ukraine. Even Himmler is on record expressing sympathy for his killers. That’s why the bullet based plan turns into a gas based one. Because it’s “easier” to flip a switch on a room full of people than to shoot naked people to fall on other corpses already in the ditch.

Both are probably true. Not many classes teach about how badly the Nazis felt; while I’m sure many of them, especially the lower ranks, suffered immense mental trauma - you really can’t explain that without sounding a bit like a sympathizer.

Maybe I’m the weird one, but it doesn’t make much sense to me to be unable to talk about them experiencing mental trauma for what they’re doing without being able to separate the fact that it doesn’t make them sympathetic or absolve them of the crimes. Life is way too complicated to try and simplify things like that.

I felt the same way a year or two back when some story broke about an IDF soldier who committed suicide because of what they did to Palestinians. I can recognize that it would absolutely cause an immense toll on their psyche but also say that they deserved to feel that bad for kt

      • Bodies. While possible, disposing of that many bodies without anyone noticing will be really hard.

They’re already using military cargo planes for “deportation” flights. Maybe some don’t have any live passengers, and they just dump the bodies mid-ocean. No need for mass graves, just load cargo containers onto a cargo plane and off it goes. If it lands with one or two fewer than it started with, that’s just a paperwork issue.

Yes. And based on everything else that MAGA and billionaires have been caught doing and defending, I think there is almost certainly widespread sex trafficking and abuse of the detainees. Why else would the administration try so hard to prevent Congress from observing the facilities?

If the Trump thugs act this badly on the streets then how horribly much worse do you think people are being treated I’m these secret detention facilities completely hidden from public view? This IMO will be seen as one of the worst chapters of our country once all the truth comes out.

Bad enough to end the Republican party in the long run? Hopefully.

I’m not sure that your second point is still a constant, though this is just an opinion and I’m open to discussion on this. They seem to have solved the problem of people not being up to mass killings, through desensitization through social media (I’m thinking of telegram groups specifically). There have been a lot of cases shown recently of people taking outright glee in their and others’ grotesque murders, en masse.

    Theoretically? No.

    In reality it’s already happening.

This is from ONE concentration camp. If they’re moving people between these ‘detention centers’ and fudging the data or straight up not recording anything on where people are, then they can disappear who they want, and by the time their lawyers or family get visit approval it’s already too late.

I think what’s standing between us today and the bottom of the genocidal slippery slope is the (relatively) free media. There are too many ways to check up on them today. Commercial satellites, FOIA requests, people with smartphones. If ICE were building a death camp or digging mass graves now, we probably would find out.

So it’s important to look at how CBS gave in and how the pentagon restricts coverage in exchange for accreditation - those are your first dead canaries in the news coalmine. When commercial satellites are suddenly forced to blur or not cover ICE camps …

I would be surprised if they hadn’t killed more people in detention already. The aim of ICE is to be state terror, their people are of questionable character, poorly trained or vetted. A duty of care is probably not first and foremost on their mind. There probably is a way to brush some cases under the carpet. Deaths by “natural causes,” “misplaced” death certificates, “corpses” on repatriation flights. The spotlight of public attention needs to be on these motherfuckers constantly.

Yeah this is an open question to me. How many people are being sent to foreign prisons and what becomes of them there? There has been very little coverage since Kilmer Abrego Garcia was freed but my understanding is this is still ongoing.
