Yeah that one was weird. Like the dude was always singing about being horrifically depressed, and then when he hung himself it was like surprised Pikachu face
Also in the context of working, this isn’t just computers. It’s tools in general, and a computer is a type of tool. Problems with your saw? Problems with your batteries? Problems with access to electricity and your extension cords not being long enough? Problem with losing your 10mm sockets? If you’re a trucker or driver the problem could be your vehicle. Etc etc etc.
This article is stupid. Tools break, they always have and always will. The tools we have now are better than they have ever been. They will probably keep getting more and more efficient, but they will still break. Because tools break.
Confusion like this got me my current job. They were looking for somebody with experience in “Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager”, and I look that up and I’m like “Oh, that’s SCCM, I do that”. Go through the interview process they keep asking me if I know Endpoint Configuration Manager and I’m like “yeah, for sure”. I get the job. Day one, the other systems engineer is like “here is the link to our Endpoint Manager Tenant”, and I’m like “oh… Shit I have never ever used this”
Well… Ends up Endpoint Configuration Manager and Endpoint Manager are two different things. Fortunately for me they are pretty similar in function and rely on knowledge of Windows and Powershell, which I know.
So my first 2 weeks of work was taking a shitload of courses in Endpoint Manager and watching a lot of videos and learning it inside and out.
2 years later and I’m an Endpoint Manager/Intune pro.
I’m on Lemmy.world because it’s the only instance I could make a account on the day Reddit shut down the API. All of the other popular instances had account creation stopped because of the flood of people.
I could probably make an account on another instance, but I’m pretty lazy. I honestly don’t know what the benefit of using another instance would be.

Oh man, that just reminded me that PB Crisps existed. Fuckin loved those things.
For android it’s power+volume up to bring up the power options menu (shutdown, restart, etc) and there is a “lock down” option that disables biometric unlock.
Wish I could do it with one hand, but good to know it’s there.
Linus was ahead of the game on this one. Nvidia should start building data centers next to public pools. Cool the systems and warm the pools.
Yup. I can say for sure that SSDs were certainly a game changer, but now we have systems with like 10x the processing power that operate at the same speeds because the power has been spent on poorly optimized code and bloatware.
Sigh… I’m going to have to start fucking around with Linux, aren’t I?
The worst part is that Windows can do that, but Microsoft insists on enshittifying it. Like Windows 11 isn’t that terrible if it wasn’t for all of the data collection and advertisements and other shit.
I miss the Windows 7 days where you could download a stripped down ISO that was just the OS. It launched your programs of choice and didn’t suck up your battery running unnecessary junk.
Plain NY slice from the window on the counter. Something about that 2nd heat up really brings the crisp out.
Not me but a buddy of mine was a “Cheese Monger”. I always found that one pretty funny.
Also when I was in high school, I was going through a book of prefessions in “Careers” class and I found “Chick Sexer”. Heh… Heheh… Chick Sexer.
The spooky orange filling Oreo Cookies. They just hit different.
Ahh yes. Reminds me of my teenage years. Experimenting with Marijuana, pirated MP3s, and the Milkdrop visualization plugin for Winamp. Those were good times… Real good times.
It is however acceptable at the supermarket when a product says “Made with 100% white meat chicken”

It seems like you’re having a difficult time understanding this, maybe I can help. If another group of people showed up, and they had signs, and maybe bullhorns, and they started protesting the opposite of what the original people were protesting, they would be counter-protesting. Some heckling could even be involved.
When they show up wearing masks and wielding baseball bats, they are not counter-protestors. They are violent criminals. They did not show up to protest. They showed up to insight violence.
I wouldn’t just go tossing out fallacies like that. Those are unwarranted assumptions. Next thing you know, you are just going to assume people are racist. It’s a slippery slope.
I’m in my late 30’s in the NYC area. What my wife and I consider a “vacation” is going to Philly and staying in a hotel with a pool, and just putzing around a different city for the weekend.
The idea of taking a week+ off from work and flying somewhere is a foreign concept to me.
There have been a couple of times that we have gone to states far away to stay with family/friends, but it’s usually for like a long weekend.
