100%. I was there from the original airing of the pilot episode through the last 22 years of multi-year breaks between seasons.

LOL a couple years ago one of my closest friends who happens to be about the furthest away from me of any of them. Shot me a message asking me to guess who they were having lunch with. I had no idea. But it turned out that she had bumped into Lisa hammer and they had been hanging out a bit. They both live up in New York near the Bronx. I may have gotten some signed Triana swag out of the deal LOL

I started during season 1 with my best friend at the time. It took me a bit to get into it, but once I was, I started back from the beginning and then it just got better every season.

Trina episodes are great. The one with the double date is one of the best. The whole set of bathroom scenes are so hilarious!

Yes would have been interesting to see if Tirana’s character got a little more development had Lisa and Doc not split. But she seems to be doing well and is enjoying her work in film out there in New York. So it’s all good.

But yes the rogues gallery on that show was always one of my favorites personally. The Thin White Duke as the sovereign complete with a Klaus Nomi/Iggy pop cameo in the second season finale I think it was? And all the other absurd villains and heroes they just shucked out left and right. Not to mention 21 absurd story arc.

Love you @Rolando@lemmy.world, but I spazzed out recently after a full year of pressing too hard for a ‘post per day,’ and I feel like I dishonored everyone here when I melted down recently. (I’m super-embarrassed)

So I appreciate the mention, but regardless of how I embarrassed the community, I can’t aim for one scholarly post per day, anymore. I just can’t. Sorry about that, matey.

Now I do plan to keep on posting as the mood seeks me, but I just CAN’T keep the community popular like this, all on my own. Even just a little bit of help would go far.

Ugh, sorry for all the bitching and moaning. :S

Don’t worry about it fam. Lemmy isn’t like a news broadcast, it’s more like a family dinner, it’s OK to go off on a rant every once in a while. And there’s no obligation to post every day, just post when you feel like it and where you feel like it. The fact is, you posted quality content a lot for a long time, and that’s commendable.

I dislike stamets because they responded to me in a toxic, rude, abrasive and above others attitude when I disagreed with them on their stance that spirituality and religon (which are seperate things) should be banned in the future entirely, it was related to start trek discussion

I disagree with that because I beleive people should have freedom to practice their religous beleifs or spiritual beleifs as long as they are not harming others

The harming of others should definitely be dealt with if someone does decide to harm others based on their beleifs but many people practice spiritual or religous beleifs without harming others

(Edit: Misclicked reply) the attitude part is pretty common for Lemmy users: passionate, with strong views enough to migrate away from the mainstream. You are free to dislike Stamets or anyone else. It’s still important to understand that nobody’s perfect, no need to have one’s flaws be used to tank the good accomplishments they’ve done for the platform.

it’s probably best not to force it. Early in the Reddit migration, frequent posting kept people coming back, but you don’t want to turn it into “your” communities. Shifting to quality over quantity is never a bad move either :)

It’s marginally easier to read, and it costs me nothing. I’ve been typing this way for forty years, and it takes me longer to try to single space after periods. Why should I change? I’m not asking anyone else to do it, but I’m not going to unlearn something that doesn’t affect anyone else.

So that’s my thing. I’m the double space after periods guy. I’ll also argue with you about State’s Rights and the Civil War, the correct pronunciation of the word “gif,” and why imperial units remain popular despite the “obvious” superiority of metric. I also have some inflammatory opinions about conservativism, but those aren’t nearly as controversial as the other ones.

My only controversial opinion is that one must always avoid “/s” indicators, as those are an instant killer of comedy. If an occasional unit of sarcasm flies over the head of another, drawing downvotes and/or unhappiness, it’s a price we must endure as a society.

I also get annoyed at lightning fast responses. And I agree 100%

It takes no time or energy to come up with one answer to a question. I’m fact, I think most humans’ brains are built for snap decisions like that.

But to weigh multiple answers against each other, poking holes in the answers you are most inclined to believe? That takes thought. And if someone is not doing that for you, then odds are, their brain is simply letting them take the discussion less seriously than your brain (or your morality) allows.

So I think you have every right to feel frustrated at such behavior.

Until this thread, I didnt realize so many Lemmy users had an issue with Flying Squid. Perhaps its because I tend to agree with a lot of his takes, but I just find him abrasive at worst. Like…unafraid to not sugarcoat an uncomfortable truth.

The thread you linked shows Flying Squid being quite reasonable while being unfairly accused of being a pedophile for having photos of their newborn child. It’s not a great example of them being unlikeable.

I understand the position in opposition to the squid’s (very common) opinion that it’s OK to have a nude photo of your baby which might be playfully and innocently used to embarass them as an adult. At no point in that thread did the squid take a position in favor of creating trauma for anyone. I would imagine, like most parents, if their daughter made it clear to them that showing the photo was a traumatic experience for them, the squid would never show it.

Also, the squid was never mean or unfair in that thread. It’s just not a good example of them being unlikeable, in my opinion. If anything, their demeanor while being unfairly called a pedophile only makes them more likeable.

Sometimes yes, but definitely not with Trek.

So I wasn’t into it originally, but watching it again as an adult I’m kinda fond of TNG. Cast is amazing, stories are (mostly) great. But I just love how mature and optimistic it is, for the most part.

Seeing difficult questions of morality and strife - seeing people consistently confront those situations with incredible ethics, empathy, and like, well, ADULTS…it’s super-refreshing.

And I like the parts of that which shone through into Voyager, DS9, and Enterprise (in that order, at least what I saw of them. I sorta got into Voyager.

Watching Picard, a lot of the characters are there, but most of what I seem to like about TNG isn’t. Plus a bunch of the plot is just nonsense and crappily written. I really don’t like it.

I tried watching some of DIS here and there but it fucking sucks (IMO). SNW still seems to have too much melodrama and stuff I just don’t like. Maybe if I wasn’t trying to compare it to TNG or VOY subconsciously, I would like it more; who knows.

              Orville is alright.

Everyone says Lower Decks is really great, and I love Futurama and Venture Bros and Rick and Morty and etc. It probably IS great. But I don’t really want throwaways about how phasers can’t melt steel beams and fart jokes in Trek.

              Guess I’m just picky :)

TNG is my favorite too. I think Lower Decks really walks the fine line of being a little bit silly but still being serious enough to feel like core trek.

No start with “The Next Generation”, or “Star Trek: The Original Series” if you like older shows

They are better, then move on to lower decks if you like comedy in a star trek setting then strange new worlds

I’d also recommend star trek prodigy, it can be watched as a family

Star trek picard season 1 and 3 are okay but depart from general star trek quality, season 2 is an absolute clusterfuck of awfulness that should be avoided and I have made my own headcannon that it was just another ones of q’s games where they messed with reality creating an awful fever dream of reality and bullshitted about themself dying just to mess with picard again just to fix that godawful season in my mind

DBZer0, aka Divide By Zer0. He runs an instance with the same name. He’s one of the old mods on r/piracy and helped lead an exodus over to Lemmy

I’m sure I’m famous because I’m allegedly a Russian troll and a Nazi sympathizer that promotes slavery in China because I eat chocolate sometimes.

    Quite the character, huh?
