we have no choice
You are working for free moderating an obviously heavily censored shithole. You have several choices, starting with deleting your account.
Reddit has come forth saying they will not tolerate mods that try to destroy communities like it happened before. If a mod deleted their account, someone else will take their place. If a mod deleted a popular subreddit, Reddit will restore it and ban the mod. Deleting their account does literally nothing.
Then everyone needs to stop modding for free.
Which I know will never happen, but that’s what it’ll take.
Then everyone needs to stop modding for free.
The thing any sub with big following has mods that don’t mod for free.
The narrative steering is not a free service.
Interesting, and something I never thought of.
Deleting their account does literally nothing.
bullshit excuse. Deleting their account removes them from the equation, makes a statement that they are not enablers of the corporate shithole.
Eh. Sure. But ultimately makes no difference in the matter. You can’t make a statement when you’re literally irrelevant.
Speak for yourself. Speaking up against what one perceives as wrong and distancing themselves from it is absolutely relevant. Using your logic, you might as well “not vote” because “1 vote out of millions is kind of irrelevant”.
Deleting their account doesn’t change the rules, only the person enforcing them.
I’m seeing a pretty obvious parallel to Luigi’s actions in your statement. I don’t think it’s as straightforward as you’re making it out to be
It’s like Wargames. The only way to win is not to play.
i like the challenge.
There’s no challenge, by participating you lose.
Communities become ghosttown shitholes when the moderators work against good faith discourse.
Not the same day new shill mods are installed, but within a few months. It poisons everything.
Banning the creators/mods of a sub is banning the people that care most about that sub, and tends to lead to installing mods that are just looking to flex power, which makes the posts and discourse toothless, repetitive, and uninsightful, which makes regulars look for a new home, if they themselves are not banned for failing to regurgitate the only correct opinions as endorsed by the new mods tasked with bringing order.
Can’t believe the corporately owned, corruptly managed, and heavily advertisement-based website would have so many rules against talking about bad things happening to rich people. That shit’s crazy. Who would have guessed?
They let it run for a full week though… the crack down started yesterday today in lock step with the heavy fake news push.
The ruling class let us have our fun, now comes the dick.
This has been the largest scale anti elite shill operation and all grass roots.
Don’t let up now…
Single payer or bust
The ruling class let us have our fun
Can’t help but suspect everyone was hiding under their desks until the culprit was apprehended.
This has been the largest scale anti elite shill operation and all grass roots.
Its certainly hit a nerve. But if you’re talking about large scale shill operations, we just got through a multi-billion dollar election cycle where the candidates argued over their favorite flavors of boot just above the sounds of the genocidal meat grinder whirring.
Single payer or bust
Can’t stop, won’t stop, until the entire for-profit hospital system is publicly owned and operated.
But if you’re talking about large scale shill operations, we just got through a multi-billion dollar election cycle where the candidates argued over their favorite flavors of boot just above the sounds of the genocidal meat grinder whirring.
You are correct but not grass roots
Can’t stop, won’t stop, until the entire for-profit hospital system is publicly owned and operated.
Can I get an, amen?!
Luigi isn’t the culprit. The cops planted that evidence on him. They won’t let him talk to the press because he didn’t do it.
Please just stop dude.
I’m sure he’ll have an air tight alibi
I know you meant stick and not dick, but it works either way 😂
When everything’s great and then the home office calls
Wow, reddit has fallen even further than I thought, and I thought it had fallen pretty fucking far.
Aaron Swartz rotating in his grave so fast rn he’s become a source of renewable energy
I wonder, what is considered the back page of the internet? Maybe 4chan.
That’s the latrine. The backpage is porn.
Fuck reddit
Reddit is no longer the people’s champion, and it’s now official.
They do have a public CEO now.
Spaz gonna help his ceo friends
Honestly I kinda wonder if he’s afraid for his own life. He had a lot of people calling for his head last year, and this kind of overreaction seems pretty in line with somebody who is just beside themselves with terror.
And this is the guy who said he’d be in charge and possibly owning slaves after society collapses. What an absolute clown! LMAO!
he did?
I misremembered exactly what he said, it was “Being around other people is a good thing. I also have this somewhat egotistical view that I’m a pretty good leader. I will probably be in charge, or at least not a slave, when push comes to shove.”
Source is from a 2017 interview: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/01/30/doomsday-prep-for-the-super-rich
iv’e seen some of his pretty shitty old posts on reddit but im not suprised.
Case in point: this was briefly on the latest r/place before it was removed.
Uhh during the Exodus from reddit Spez was telling his employees to not wear reddit identifying clothing outside and to be careful when out in public as they were likely to be attacked…
As if people complaining and stopping using your platform was already grounds to think your life was over. He’s absolutely paranoid and this likely is just straight up eating him inside since this was more real.
This is absolutely his response and thinking that it does anything to protect himself to protect his caste.
Uhh during the Exodus from reddit Spez was telling his employees to not wear reddit identifying clothing outside and to be careful when out in public as they were likely to be attacked…
I’m sure he thought to himself “I’m getting so much negative feedback and hostile attention that everyone else must be experiencing the same thing… right?”
I forgot about that! “Everyone loves us, but maybe for your safety don’t tell anyone you work here.”
He is only creating a Streinhand effect.
I hope he pulls an Oedipus Rex and tries so hard to avoid killing his dad and fucking his mom that he accidentally kills his dad and fucks his mom.
FYI, the S word is increasingly seen as a slur.
He’s a spastic moron so the name fits wonderfully.
Speztic
Better than Spez… crap I said it!
If we just send all the offensive words into the memory hole then people will stop thinking bad thoughts about groups of people. We can erase it right out of history and everything will be better. Control the language, control the thoughts. Thanks Ministry of Truth! 🥸
Bruh what. I’m not trying to control anything. Just offering an objective fact that you can use how you see fit.
It was just a typo of spez
Uhh…so you know language is like, a social construct, right? As people have come to realize, “spaz” was originally used to describe people with “spastic” movements from conditions like spastic paralysis or cerebral palsy, it’s fallen out of favour.
That’s all. No one is trying to control you or suppress your language. It’s just not a great word, and the language you choose reflects on your perceived character by others.
That said, I’m not here trying to police your speech, speak as you will.
Since you clearly missed it, “spaz” was just a typo of /u/spez, the CEO of reddit.
You know, the first thing I do in the morning when I wake up really should not be get on Lemmy.
Front page of their internet
Fucking corpo scum.
huh
who would have thought that the front page of the internet could also be one of its many giant prolapsed flapping assholes ?
not just regrading to this specific issue though
“we have no choice but to follow Reddits guidelines”
There’s another choice, but that would require you to look past reddit.
Didn’t lemmy.World admins also have an issue pinned earlier?
Yeah we’re not allowed to discuss jury nullification.
A legal part of the justice system cannot be discussed?
!lemmyworld
We have previously asked moderators to remove content relating to jury nullification when this was suggested in context of murder or other violent crimes. Following a discussion in our team we want to clarify that we are no longer requesting moderators to remove content relating to jury nullification in the context of violent crimes when the crime in question already happened. We will still consider suggestions of jury nullification for crimes that have not (yet) happened as advocation for violence, which is violating our terms of service.
You can for past crimes, not future crimes.
The whole statement: https://lemmy.world/c/lemmyworld
About the manifesto
If it’s confirmed, I don’t see why not. Depends on the community, of course. I’m sure !lemmybewholesome would remove it.
https://lemmy.world/comment/13922763
On the other hand, there is !AskUSA@discuss.online that got created recently. This thread can interest you, it talks about jury nullification: https://lemmy.world/post/22973877
Not an American and we don’t have jury system here.
What’s jury nullification and any notable cases where it was applied?
To determine whether or not an accused individual is guilty there are two primary options in the USA. A trial before a judge who makes the decision, or a trial by a “jury of your peers” where the whole jury must agree that the individual is guilty. A jury of one’s peers means that the people selected to hear the case are selected from the general populace and have no substantial connection to the accused. For example, you wouldn’t put the person’s mother on the jury. The jurors are not required to be lawyers or experts in any field. Just average people.
If you just wanted some people to take the facts of the case and the facts of the law and determine whether or not the accused was guilty, then you would want experts and lawyers on the jury. That’s how trials used to be hundreds of years ago. A judge, often appointed by a king, would pass sentence over the peons brought before him. Since our legal system has average everyday people as jurors, clearly they are supposed to do more than that.
This is where jury nullification comes in. The jurors not only judge based on the facts of the case, but also on whether or not the law in question is just. If an individual is accused of a crime, and is clearly in violation of the law, the juror can still find them not guilty if the law in question is unjust. In essence, the jurors nullify the law by refusing to convict. For example, during the prohibition era, it was not unheard of for juries to return not guilty verdicts for people accused of selling or transporting alcohol. The jurors thought the laws
waswere wrong so they refused to convict. A much more tragic example was in the deep south where jurors would sometime refuse to convict people of lynching black people.
Not true - we’re just not allowed to discuss jury nullification in the context of encouraging someone to commit a violent felony which includes the promise of absolution through jury nullification.
Or something, idk. It was kinda weird.
Jury nullification as two English words that can be spoken one after the other, however, is perfectly allowable.
I think this is going to cause de-federation.
Not that the mods are aware, but if Reddit disappeared tomorrow, I (sadly) suspect most users would go to Twitter or various Discords.
shithole 1 or shithole 2.
What if we made a new shithole?
then i would leave. Im trying to run away from the shit wave.

I’ve thought about it as some of my niche interests have dried up on Reddit and apparently only live on Twitter now.
And maybe Discord. It’s hard to tell because it’s closed, but I see hints of discussion spilling out into GH issues or whatever.
I despise both for different reasons, but where else am OlI gonna go if I actually want to talk with the community?
I still use Twitter. It has a pretty awesome metal community. People I’ve shared music with for many years now.

They even have to leave, they just have to ignore the admins and become ungovernable.
But they won’t, because they’re cowards.
You plant shit seeds, you get shit weeds. I hate the fact that Reddit has grown since I bailed over for API changes. It hurts my soul knowing I did the right thing and bailed but the vast majority of people who were pissed off at Reddit ended up back on the platform.
It’s bots dude
Anyone with integrity left reddit on July 1st, 2023
Hidden Donuts, why are you hiding?
I am? Or am I missing a joke here? Wouldn’t be the first time
In Linux, putting a “.” before a file/folder name hides it. ;)
Ah shit my cover is blown, never used Linux
There’s no hiding it. They can tell by your socks.
./Ha_ha
On Lemmy. Never used Linux. Your story doesn’t add up!
There’s dozens of us, DOZENS
I’ve only used Linux when I used Retropie, does that count?
someone did -la
Hidden files on Linux start with a period.
Lemmy has to be one of the very few places on the internet where a Linux based joke isn’t considered obscure.
We will tolerate these beatings because we are still in love with the assaulter.
No, actually because they’re hoping the assaulter will pass the bat once they get tired
Trickle down batonomics
Oof… Yeah I mean… yeah. That’s a pretty apt description of how the world is where it is now.
welp, sucks to be them
What a dookie instance. Can’t believe I spent over a decade in that corporate zoo
It wasn’t always like that. The real shitshow only started when Huffman took over.
I mean, it didn’t start as one, but it morphed into one over time. Early Reddit was pretty great.
Except for all the child abuse of course
Yeah I wasn’t aware of the ol platform enshitification pattern. Hardly anyone was - probably the creators and administors of reddit weren’t entirely aware either.
We were just a bunch of folks on the net trying things.
platform enshittification
It was called Eternal September back from Usenet days when the Internet was mainly an academic thing and every September old users braced for an influx of freshmen starting new academic year and getting access to newsgroups. I was aware shit was reddit’s final form even back in 2006. I’m actually surprised the shareholders left it unmolested for so long.
That wasn’t enshittification, just an influx of inexperienced users. Once the corporations got involved, that’s when enshittification truly began.
When the students came in and got on Usenet, that was just regular September. Eternal September when AOL or CompuServe, or one of those added Usenet. It was like the kids never had to leave at the end of the academic year.
Can’t have LLMs learning about manifestos against the rich, eh?
Comrade AI
A red-pilled LLM is inevitable. It can only be postponed.
